Quick TM1Top Question

Post by jim wood »

Guys,

Isn't it possible to DC users through TM1Top. While looking at the documentation that comes with it I can only find details on how to cancel a thread,

Jim.

Just out of curiosity, why would you use Tops and not the Server Manager "Disconnect Client" feature?

Top can only cancel thread processing (and even then only certain actions such as ViewCreate and ProcessExecute). This can be useful to cancel a users's action and unlock the server but you cannot log a user out with Top.

The reason I asked the question is that Top doesn't always stop a user action. I seem to remember that this feature was original in Ben Hills extended windows version or is it just me? Either way the problem I was having needed a server kill in the end. Always a joy,

Jim.

If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

Jim - my rule of thumb is to kill the thread in TM1 Top, then wait for up to 5 minutes - if its not dead by then a server restart is possibly the best way to go (also depends on how long a restart takes - if its an hour you might give TM1 Top 10 minutes to kill the thread in question).
