request for assistance

Post by Jcausero »

good afternoon...i was hoping someone could clarify a TM1 question I have. We have some consolidated rollups that utilize -1 weightings for some of the children. The consolidated total appears to be calculating as expect...however when i drilldown into the children and slice the results (excel) the sum of my children doesn't tie back to the consolidated total. i thought the application would apply the negative -1 weightings and bring the children in with their signs flipped on the cube slice. I have users that want to drilldown and add up the children to get back to the subtotal and it doesn't work because -1 weighting is being applied. is there a way to get the drilldown to display the child results with any weightings that may have been applied.

Child acct a=80 (weighting of 1.0)
Child acct b=5 (weighting of 1.0)
Child acct c=-15 (weighting of -1.0)

My Total=100 which is correct. However the detail children that are tied to the parent in my slice still reflect 80,5,-15 which when u manually sum up in excel =70. Its confusing to the user.

Thanks for your help. I look forward to learning more about the tool and educating myself via this forum.

This is not how it works.
If the user entered +15, any display of that cell will show +15.
If the user entered -15, any display of that cell will show -15.

Correct. Weights are for the calculation of the parent consolidation. However, it doesn't affect the display sign of a user entered child element (out-of-the-box).

It is up to you as the model developer to design a user experience that makes sense for your clients. Perhaps you don't want to use -1 weight and instruct your users to enter values as negative instead of positive, so in Excel they can select the cells to see the sum total.

Good luck Jcausero -- let us know how you make out.

As Adam says this is how TM1 works.

For clarity there are not multiple elements and data points for acct C for every place and weighting where acct C sits in the hierarchy.

There is only acct C, the weightings are part of the definition of the consolidation and nothing really to do with the definition of the behaviour of acct C.
