Getting 9.4 from 9.0

Post by mauriciosaucedo »

Hi

I've been working with TM1 for a few years now. (I started with ver 9.0 sp3)

I'm planning to upgrade to 9.4 but I'm not exactly sure how to download it.

I downloaded 9.0 sp3 in the old Applix support page. I still got my user and pwd.

Been trying in the IBM product download page but I'm lost.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to proceed?

Thanks,

Mauricio

Hi

I hit the same problem.

In order to download anything you need a customer number and site id. If you are not the primary contact for IBM at your site, you need to get approval from that person, and in order to ask that approval you need to logon to the IBM site with this site id. The chances are that someone in your organisation has bought a mainframe from IBM at some time and they will be the primary contact, even though they know nothing about TM1. I feel that the transition from the old Cognos site could have been made much smoother. Why should we need to re-register? IBM should have sorted all this out before they migrated.

There is another gotcha. If you are going to 9.4 you want to go to 9.4 MR1 FP1. You can download that from the Support site (Cognos TM1 is listed under Information Management in IBM's top level catalogue). However, it can only be installed over 9.4 MR1. I don't know why - it is certainly the size of a full installation.

Anyway I am still waiting for a Site Id, so I asked support to put 9.4 on the FTP site, and downloaded it from there. Unfortunately so far they have only put up the 64 bit, and I am still waiting for the 32 bit (server not much use without client).

Anyway hopefully I am only a day away from getting it either via FTP or via the IBM Passport-Site Id-Primary Contact route.

Regards

Thank you for your input.

Paul, you were right, the primary contact wasn't even aware of that. Fortunately we are on the same team in Financial dept. So I think I will start with the registration process.

See ya

Have you read Alan Kirk's post? I haven't been through it you but that might help.

Alternatively I would suggest shortcutting the process as I did, and getting 9.4 MR1 from the FTP site and the MR1 FP1 upgrade from the IBM site. That is probably going to be quicker than waiting for a Site Id. Telephoning seems to work better than emailing or logging requests.

I think you are right, the support people at IBM doesn't seem to know anything about us.

Sorry to ask but, how should I get to the FTP site? Been looking for it in the forum but I don't seem to find it

Thanks,

Mauricio

Try ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com. However, I am not sure if the files are still there. You should contact support to get the particular version that you need put up there.

As a further update on this, I finally got a Site ID and an ICN (which I assume is an IBM Customer Number) although I can't say whether it works or not as I now can't find the place that asked for it on the maze that is the IBM web site.

I am also not getting a straight answer from IBM on whether customers now have to go via their partners for support rather than direct to IBM, as our partner seems to have been designated as our principal consultant. I think after 10 years of working with TM1 I know enough to know whether a problem is something that a partner is likely to be able to help with, or as is far more common, it is a bug that needs to be dealt with by IBM.

By the way, there is now a 9.4 MR1 FP2 fix available, so we are now testing with that instead of FP1.
