[10.2] 64 bit or 32 bit Perspectives ?

Post by hittony »

Hi,

From the technote below, I can understand that the server 64 bit installation package contains both 64 bit and 32 bit Perspectives, respectively in C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin64 and in C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin.

Technote 1694607

But when I tried on my laptop, I still had to install 32 bit Perspectives from the client 32 bit installation package, because it didn't work with tm1p.xla in tm1_64\bin folder :o

Has anybody encountered the same problem ?

Thanks

You realise of course that when it comes to Perspectives you need to use the bit version that matches your version of Office? If you have 32 bit Excel, you need to use 32 bit Perspectives.

Dear Alan,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

According to the technote, if you have installed a 64 bit TM1 package, you do not need to install again another 32 bit Perspectives for your 32 bit Excel, because it is part of the 64 bit package and in the folder C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin.

However, it didn't work on my laptop. That was why I posted this question. Hope I've made myself understood.

I didn't see anything of the sort in that technote. The bottom line is that your Perspectives add-in must match the Office. The 64-bit Perspectives add--in only works with Office 64-bit and the same with 32-bit. The answer, of course, is to install the 32-bit add-in from the 32-bit client installation package.

Hi tomok,

I understand of course 32 bit Perspectives works only with 32 bit Excel, and 64 Perspectives works only with 64 bit Excel.

According the last paragraph in the technote :
With the TM1 64 bit installation:
The 64 bit tp1p.xla file is at a path such as:
C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin64
The 32 bit tm1p.xla file is at a path such as:
C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin
It means if you install a 64 bit TM1, you can also have a 32 bit Perspectives which works with 32 bit Excel.

In another word, I succeeded to load
  • C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin64\tm1p.xla for my 64 bit Excel
  • C:\Program Files (X86)\ibm\cognos\tm1\bin\tm1p.xla for my 32 bit Excel
but I failed to load
  • C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin\tm1p.xla for my 32 bit Excel

When you say, "It doesnt work" what do you mean?
What error messages are you getting?

This error message "Runtime error '53'. File not found tm1xl.ocx" is bloody horrid, as it comes up for a multitude of reasons.
One reason I had was because the customer had used the MSOfficeToolbox and registered her version of Office illegally and the registration had expired.

So, I am afraid if this is the message you are getting, this TN is not the only one you need to check out.

There is one about registering the dlls, there is one about registering your version of Office

But what ever the case is, it would be worth giving us a few more bits of info please.

Is it only your machine?
Has it ever worked before?
If so, what changed between then and now?
