CopyPaste large excel selection into TM1Web

Post by Mark H »

Folks,

Project is using TM1Web - no websheets. [v.10.2.2]

User want to paste large excel selection into the grid but I have the situation where TM1Web is managing the screen into pages. The content that should be in Page 2+ is not being received. This is surprising at first but of course slice isn't really there so NOT so surprising as much as disappointing.

I can alter the settings in config file but apparently open to performance problems.

The end result of this is that users are sending end-user data files to central team for loading - so no longer a distributed PBF system.

Any thoughts?

NB: forum has lots of problems in copy/paste but not found this exact one.

Thanks

I don't know for sure if this issue has been solved, but in general there have been a LOT of fixes to the 10.2 TM1Web. It's probably a good idea to checkout the latest fixpack (currently 10.2 RP2 FP3) to see if this has already been fixed.

So, you are trying to copy a range of cells from an Excel spreadsheet into a cube view where the copy range may have 1,000 rows but the cube view is only showing 50 rows, or whatever you have the default set at. The two grids do not match so the copy won't work. The only way to make it work is to up the number of rows shown in cube view. However, this may have it's own set of consequences. This may indeed be a "problem" for you but it doesn't mean anything is broken. To me, it seems like that's the way they intend it to work.

The answer is to create a websheet that has the maximum number of rows you want to allow for copying and publish that. I don't get the "no websheets" statement. Absent that I don't think there is a workable solution.

Hi Tomok,

For clarification:

All items in the excel are present in the cube view (if opened in Architect). The presentation of the grid is such that majority of items are on page2+ and therefore not visible on the grid unless we start scrolling through the pages.

The project is not using websheets so I cannot control the paging of the cube view on screen. So yes, looks like I am a bit stuck.
the project was 'migrated' from EP in recent times and are resolute in their decision not to revert to a spreadsheet world. - hmmmm

Thanks

If you spend a little bit of time showing your users the differences between websheets (well designed ones) and excel then you should be able to remove their concerns.

Failing that... how many rows are we talking?
I almost always extend the out of the box number of rows (and columns) in the config without too much issue but I don't go overboard and I make sure to test each application for performance before deploying.
