9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
Hi All,
We have recently upgraded a server to 9.1 Sp4 (64bit edition) as well as the clients to 9.1 Sp4. The problem however is that the clients are now not able to "see" the server.
Path to the admin host is still correct.
Any clue's on wht this may happen?
Thanx People!

Without knowing what version you upgraded from its difficult to determine where the problem lies.
At a guess I'd say it's a change to client settings - speficially the certificate Path - need to change it from C:\program files\applix\ssl\..... to C:\program files\cognos\.... (through Perspectives/Server Explorer).

Re: 9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
Hi par3,
Sounds pretty scary! Did this happen in your test upgrade?
What's the problem? Are the log ins being refused or is the server not visible in the server explorer?
If the server is not visible then
1.Check that the server is actually running by looking in the services of the 64 bit box!
2.Double check that the box name is what you think it is and that this is what in the admin host.
3.Ping the Tm1 server box from the client, if this does not work then you have some kind of network issue and raise with IT. If the ping does work try using the ip address instead of the name.
All a bit obvious I suppose but not sure what else the problem could be...
Cheers

Re: 9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
Par3,
It sounds like it could also be a firewall issue?
Check the firewall ports to see if this could be blocking your tm1 connection.
Examine the TM1 Admin Server SSL connection which is normally port 5498.
Regards
Herman

Re: 9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
Hi Guys,
We upgraded from 9.1 Sp3.
The servername in the admin host box is definitely correct.
The port number in the config file is not as you mentioned Herman but does it make difference?
The other interesting thing is that Tm1 Web still works fine as well as our remote desktop connection to the server.

Par3,
The port number is not in the config file.
Re run the install on the server machine and examine the attached screenshot.
The TM1 Admin server SSL port should be 5498.
If this number is different this could be your problem.

Re: 9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
Par3,
I would also like to add because you can see the TM1 server on the Server, but no where else makes me think its is still a firewall issue. Try the following on the server.
Go to Windows Firewall and choose exceptions.
Choose a port number as below:
5498
If you open up this port from the firewall see if the user can now see the TM1 server.
Attached another screenshot below.

Thanx Herman!
I tried everything you suggested but no cigar. Interestingly one of the other users can see the server but the other 3 can't.
Have any more ideas?

Hi Par3,
I'd raise with IBM or your VAR ASAP, without sitting in front of the box, I've exhausted my suggestions....

Re: 9.1 SP4 Not connecting to Server
I've a sneaky feeling i might know the answer to this. If your previous setup worked fine and the server config has not changed, then its not very likely to be firewall or SSL issues. What it could be tho is a setting in the server config file that dictates which client versions are allowed to connect.
If you have either of those set, try commenting them out and restarting the server. I know from trying to help test someone elses server (they were on 9.1 i'm on 9.0) that if they are wrong you won't be able to see the server in server explorer.
Code: Select all
ClientVersionMaximum = 9.0.2
ClientVersionMinimum = 9.0.0
If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.
