Clean up Public Views

Post by AWTM1 »

Hi,

We have Many views created for some cubes in our model, many of which I don't believe are used. I would like to get rid of some to make the application cleaner with less views to maintain. Is there any way of tracing which users are using which Public views?

Any advice appreciated.

Yes. And it works perfectly with any technology. You remove/hide something and then wait for people to start shouting - that way you find out who needs what and how much.

It's always fun if you delete them the day before you go on holiday for 2 weeks.

I remember those days in corporate life all too well. Some nincompoop in IT was always removing my rights to things whenever they were too lazy to ask. I can't tell you how many hours I wasted each month having to re-justify why I needed something that I had needed for at least 10 years.

Yes, invest the effort in cultivating a group of super-users who are receptive to the idea that if they give you helpful feedback then you can help them by providing a leaner, meaner system. You can then ask questions to this focus group like 'do you think it will be a problem if I remove the XYZ public view that's been hanging around for ages?'.
