Annual Maintenance Fee

Post by pchin »

Hi all,

Can I get some feedback as to what is your experience / industry norm when it comes to annual maintenance fee? Should the client start paying annual maintenance during development stage (once the contract for licence has been signed? or only when the software has been fully delivered and successfully tested.

Thanks

You start paying maintenance from the moment you own the software - so once the contract for the license has been signed.

We have partnered with various software companies over the years and they adopt the same approach. For the software support and maintenance ( most of which goes to the software author even if paid via a Partner) the industry norm is you pay from when you buy the software. Different companies have different presentations of this, eg IBM bundle first year support in the purchase cost.

Support for the application itself is different and will depend on your relationship with the partner who developed the application.
