April Fool prank about TM1
Has anyone got a good one to share, I am planning a prank in the office

Well, you could delete your data directory and all of the back-up copies, that should be good for a chuckle.Chengooi wrote:Has anyone got a good one to share, I am planning a prank in the office

Seriously, don't do it. If you do anything that interferes (or appears to interfere) with the data integrity or the user interface of your system, you're likely to have at least some naffed off users. And the reality of office politics is that it takes only one humourless git (presupposing that the prank was actually funny), or one person with an axe to grind against you, your department, or your boss, and it's likely to be something that will be thrown back at you on a regular basis.
And not in a good way.
The closest thing to this that MIGHT be safe would be using the broadcast facility to beam a funny message out to your logged on users (since that wouldn't interfere (appreciably) with their work), and I wouldn't even do THAT unless you knew all of them personally and knew that they'd be tickled by it.
I'm not saying that an office environment should be all work and no play, but when you're custodian of data that people rely on to do their work and your company relies upon for its financial reporting (an issue which many companies are hypersensitive about in the GFC era), it's better to err on the side of caution and "professionalism", for want of a better term. If you really want to do an April Fool's Day prank, it would probably be better to think of something that doesn't (directly at least) involve your TM1 system.

I agree with Alan. You'll be miles better off putting a whoppy cushion on the CEO's chair.

Chengooi - you could always tell your users that TM1 now has an undo and then, when they get all excited, shout "April Fool"
You'll be the toast of your department. Or maybe just toast.

Shouldn't that be a lower case "t" on the "The" if it's e e cummingsThe most wasted of all days is one without laughter.

Would that be AFTER you tell them to generate a view of their budget numbers at the top consolidation level, and press "C" so that they can test this new Undo feature?John Hobson wrote:Chengooi - you could always tell your users that TM1 now has an undo and then, when they get all excited, shout "April Fool"![]()

Re: April Fool prank about TM1
I have 4 more months to go , not 8 days.
I think making the most important cube for instance GL cube invisible to all is much easier to do.
and the only cube available is a cube called April Fool Zone!

Re: April Fool prank about TM1
Can you rig up some sort of web cam so we can all watch what happens
Maybe you can Twitter in real time too?
"Chengooi I have hidden the GL cube"
"Chengooi This is so much fun"
"Chengooi Here they come!"
"Chengooi They don't look happy"
"Chengooi Why aren't they laughing"
"Chengooi What's that he's carrying?"
"Chengooi Why is he inserting it in me?"
"Chengooi I won't be able to type any more if you do THAT to me"
.....

Re: April Fool prank about TM1
I work in a very corporate office, making a cube invisible in the 1st instance will cause all gigantic spreadsheets show key errors, then many unhappy people will scream
Definately not a nice prank especially 1st April is a very important day in any finance depart.
I rather waste my day without a laugh!

not here, our financial calendar goes from 1st Jan to 31st Dec

If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

Ours starts on 1st May. Why companies don't line them up with the tax year (which causes them more work) is beyond me.

Yeah I've wondered why the trend seems to be towards y/e Dec like out cousins across the pond. Seems daft to create all that work when you know a bunch of people are going to be off wrok for Christams.
