Incompatibility with Excel 2013 and TM1 10.2

Post by dacorreia »

We started to move some of our users from 9.4 to 10.2. The new users are on Windows 7 PC with Excel 2013. One user reported that he cannot do another slice in 10.2 after he has done one. He gets an error message staying that "An Excel dialog box is open. Please close it first". He checked and there is no messages or actions in Excel waiting for him to do. I logged into the same server with a admin account. the server had Excel 2010 and I did five slices in a row without any issues.

Has anybody else run into this issue? I do not see anything mentioned of it being an issue or fixed by a Fix Pack on the IBM site. We are going to see if the same issue occurs on the other people's TM1 that we migrated to 10.2. It might just be a local PC issue (i think there were some problems with the installation of Windows and Office on this person's computer but not sure).

David, I also see this happen occasionally, haven't found out what is the cause of this issue. Close excel and look in the task manager if some instance of Excel isn't left open (if so end it), start excel etc...

I think we have some issues with the Excel installation, since others have 2013 Excel and not reporting an issue. I will update the board if I do find some issue with 10.2 and Excel 2013.

We are experiencing the same issue with 10.2 Perspectives.

We have been able to reproduce this bug in the following way. Excel 2010, TM1 10.2.

1. Open perspectives and log into TM1
2. Open a cube view
3. Export the view to Excel
4. Export the view Excel again (to prove that it is not a matter of how many times you export the view)
5. Close the blank workbook that is automatically opened when you open perspectives (Book1)
6. Export the view to Excel - it will fail with the error "An Excel dialog is open. Please close it first".

I am having the same issue. We have looked at modifying the DDE settings in Excel but this has not made any difference. What we have noted however is that if you slice out an Active Form first, this error message stops.
We are tryingthis out with TM1 10.2.2 and Windows 7 Office 2013.
Has anyone else had any updates on this ?
Cheers

I have a win7 + Excel 2013 (office 365 I think it is one and the same) + TM1 10.2.2 VM image. I don't recall ever hitting this issue but I will retest and see if it comes up.
Please place all requests for help in a public thread. I will not answer PMs requesting assistance.

I saw a different behaviour between Perspectives launched by active Excel add-In vs. started using the icon.
Using the icon had minimized the trouble.

I have raised a PMR 17956 215 616 today with IBM for this issue. What I am finding is that if Workbook 1 (the first blank workbook that opens by default when you launch perspectives) is left open, multiple slices or snapshots can be performed.
If however I close workbook 1 and try to do another slice or snapshot I get the following error in a TM1 dialogue box
"An Excel dialog is open. Please close it first"

I am unable to perform any further slices unless I shut down perspectives.

Your thoughts /guidance will be most welcome

Armand

I am guessing this should be moved to the "bugs" board

Armand,

Thanks for contacting IBM about this issue. Can you let the board know if they get back to you about this? I only have one or two users reporting this issue, but it is a nuisance. I will have the user disable the add-in and start Perspectives by the program and see if it helps.

This has been one of my frustration over the past months too.

Per IBM at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.w ... tus&mync=E the issues appears to be fixed in 10.2.2 FP1

I have recently upgraded and tested doing the following:
1) Start Excel and login to TM1 model (do not close default blank workbook)
2) Open a cube and snapshot/slice - it actually took me to the new workbook (prior to FP1 I was left on a random workbook and had to find Book2.xls or whatever)
3) Close slice and intial blank workbook to get back to grey Excel background
4) Slice from TM1 again - Slice opens correctly without the Dialogue already open message

So far so good.
BR, George.
