Migration from TM1 952 to Cognos Express 10.2 Security issue

Post by 71skyrave »

Hi People!!!
I've being requested to do a migration model from TM1 9.5.2 to Cognos Express 10.2 but as far as I know, first I can't go from TM1 to Express, and second, the security administration is very different between both versions, and for that reason, I could not be able to migrate the model from TM1 to Express. Does any one here have done a migration like this one? Does the security administration could be solved with a workaround you guys know? Any recomendations about this migration? I'll be glad to read your opinions as soon as you can friends. My Regards for everybody...

There is nothing from a technical perspective stopping you, tm1 and cx are the same thing underneath.
It may be useful for you to say what is in the model since some stuff has changed significantly between those versions (regardless of whether we talk CX or TM1)

CX security defaults to using CAMs but you can still set it to any of the 5 TM1 modes using the config file in the same way you can with TM1. If you are using the BI components of CX as well as TM1 (or intending to use "planner"/"Tm1 applications") you may want to go with security mode 5 (CAMs) but that shouldn't stop you migrating, you just maintain users and groups in a different window.

Security shouldn't stop you doing a migration, the only place I can see it being an issue is if you were using "old style contributor" since the new offering is a completely different kettle of fish.

-----------
In the model there is no rules applied, only cubes that are being updated by ODBC conections, and there are some cube views. Nothing more at this moment...!!!
