TM1 Web Install Error

Post by CapAmerica »

Well the TM1Newbie "Me" has started and installed the TM1 10.1 64 bit Windows 7 suite thanks to the help from Alan Kirk and this site! But unfortunately, while everything with the install went very well I did run into a error and issue with TM1 web. Now I have looked through the TM1 forum and could not find anyone with the same issue as mine, so i'm guess the TM1Newbie "Me" screwed the pooch. 8)

Has anyone faced the HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found error and if so what do I need to do to fix the issue. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Does the physical path it is looking at exist? What OS did you install this on? The reason I ask the second question is later versions of the windows server os lock down certain directories. Related to that point you need to make sure all TM1 web folders have read and execute permissions for the IIS security groups,

Main thing with installing web on Win7 is to make sure that 1/ IIS is enabled as a windows component and 2/ that II6 compatibility mode is enabled (I have forgotten to do that a few times  ) If you don't do this then TM1Web just won't install. But as per my experience it will be a "silent fail" and you won't get any error message either popping up during the install or in the logs, the component just won't be there.

Did you change the install path? Because the default for 10.1 64 bit for TM1Web will be C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\TM1Web whereas your screenshot shows a physical path of C:\inetpub\wwwroot\TM1Web
This is the old default path for TM1Web which indicates there was a prior installation. Did you uninstall completely first?

On the odd chance that you did deliberately keep the old virtual directory path then check if TM1WebMain.aspx is set up as the default document for the virtual directory.

Hey @Jim Wood I am running TM1 10.1 and TM1 Web on WIndows 7 64 Bit client. With MS Excel 2010. Also, please IIS settings in which I enabled

@lotsaram

You are correct I did reinstall TM1 twice as I thought I may have messed up the first time and I figured why not install it again as that should fix the problem. Fortunately that did not fix my issue, but probally made it worse. Now should I uninstall TM1 web and reinstall? Or is it ok as it is? In addition, I was not aware I should have changed the install path for TM1 web. Do you know what I should use? Right now the path where TM1 web is installed is the following

C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\TM1Web

Also when I try to open TM1WebMain.aspx file I get the following error

Any help on this would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi CapAmerica,

the 404 screenshot after fresh TM1 Web installation seems familiar to me. As far as I remember, the following IIS configuration did solve that:

Open IIS configuration
Click on "TM1Web" application
Double click on "Default Document"
Add a new default document "tm1weblogin.aspx" (see screenshot below)
Now try again to log in to TM1 Web

I had this problem with TM1 9.5.2 on Windows Server 2008 64bit running IIS7. Your environment is different, but I would give it a try.

Hi Andreas -

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I may have a bigger issue. When I opened my IIS configuration I do not have the TM1Web folder, I only have the aspnet_client folder. Did I mess something up on the install

If you don't have that folder then the TM1Web installation never happened. Quit wasting time on this board and use your time wisely. Uninstall TM1, making sure every vestige of it is gone, and then re-install. When you re-install, make sure you run the install exe as Admin. if that doesn't fix it then you can come back and ask some more questions.

tomok -

I have already reinstalled TM1Web about 3 times, so TM1 Web is installed as Admin!

foogy you are a life saver! So I figured the issue. What I did was I had to add the Application "TM1 Web" to the IIS Manager. Once I did that I also had to add the Virtual Directory "TM1 WebEx" based on the image you provided. Once I this I then followed your instructions by double clicking "Default Document" and added "tm1weblogin.aspx" Thans again foogy, jim wood, and lotsarm for taking the time in helping me with my issue! No thanks to tomok because all you did was waste a good post! :P

Thanks again to all that truly helped!

I'm a bit late to the party here as the OP's issue has been resolved but considering that the installation of TM1 Web seems to be a fairly common issue; I expect that this topic will be searched for in the future so I will just add a point or two.

In my experience the issues like that seen here are usually the result of not having the correct IIS components installed BEFORE kicking off the TM1 installer. Now, in this instance you will be allowed to proceed through the full installation and receive a nice successful message at the end as if all is well.

If you get errors when going to the TM1 Web URL and then check IIS to see that there is no "TM1Web" or "TM1WebEx" directories that is a key indicator that TM1 could not even start to install TM1 Web because it didn't have the required pre-requisites available at the time.

At this point it would be a logical conclusion to believe that adding in the IIS components and then re-installing TM1 Web would do the trick.
However, a reinstall (that's just kicking off the installer again without doing an uninstall) will again proceed to tell you that it ran successfully but not actually do anything. It almost seems as if the 7 components of TM1 that are installed when you click through the TM1 Web only install, actually have prerequisites of their own that exist somewhere during the initial TM1 install.

So go back and do a full uninstall of TM1.
Add in the required IIS components (I usually tell other people to just "add the lot" as it saves time.)
Do a full install of TM1.
TM1 Web should now work.

Of course there is the ability to avoid the uninstall/install by going through the IIS Management Console and adding in the relevant pieces of the puzzle yourself but I expect that is a task that for some users could cause more worry & resulting errors than just doing a clean reinstall. Although I have "botched" it myself on occasion by changing the IIS configs manually, I would recommend that users follow the "proper" order and that way you can be certain that the install will have proceeded exactly as Big Blue desired it to be done and therefore should be a reliable tool for you.

Maybe it was a wasted post because you didn't follow my directions. In each of those "re-installations" did you uninstall TM1 first AND make sure that everything was gone, including folders, files and yes, even registry entries? Just right-clicking and choosing install is not going to fix anything in TM1. This isn't Microsoft Office we're talking about. You can't just run the install program again and add the components you missed the first time. Yes, I agree, it should work that way but it doesn't. I might also add that calling me out and saying I wasted your time is probably not very smart, bulletin board-wise. You never know when you'll need someone's help in the future.

Hi declanr,

would you mind telling us which the required elements are? Seems I belong to "other people"... And for me it is about Windows Server 2008 where I ran into this very issue, so everything looks slightly different :?
