Combine dimension from different file into cube

Post by luirubio »

Hi,

I am using TM1 Version 10.1 , I'm trying to link data between cubes,

Scenario.

I have 2 different files and i upload it to TM1 via TI, I want to creating cube using the dimension of the 2 files that i upload in TI. How will i assign the measures? should the 2 files must have a common data with each other? e.g. Date or Name.

Please help,

Thank you,

Is your screenshot complete? It looks like there may be more objects underneath the resflight cube. it's going to be difficult to provide help without complete background info. BTW, where in the world did you come up with the title for this post??????? It's not even distinctly related to the question at hand. You people kill me sometimes.

I'm sorry, I was sleepy when I created this post, Let me try again.

"Link Data Between Cubes"

How do I link Data between cubes? I'am using TM1 V10.1 and a I already created 2 Different cubes. Now i want to get a specific Dimension from 2 cubes and turn it into another cube, How will I manage my Data Measures?

Well, at least we're making progress and you've now provided a complete screen shot showing all the 3 cubes, not 2. Now let's get to the meat of the request. You want to get a specific dimension from 2 cubes and turn it into another cube????? I take it English is not your native language because that makes no sense at all to me. Are you saying you want to link the data from one cube to another? Which cube has the data and which cube is going to be the recipient? Do the elements in res.measures and resflight.measures match? If they don't match, what is your plan for mapping them?

Yes I want to link data between 2 cubes. For example;

I want to create a cube named "Forward Bookings Report" the source of this cube dimensions will come from 2 different delimited file text file report.

res.text and resflight.text

How can I create the cube? Should I combine this 2 text file to and turn it to a 1 big file? What if this 2 file don't have a common reference column?

Why are you saying you want to link data between 2 cubes when in actuality you are asking how to create a cube out of a text file? Do you want to know how to create a cube from a text file? Take a training course, or at a minimum read the documentation. This is basic TM1 functionality. I'm not going to sit here and regurgitate documentation for you.

I'll make it simple to understand.

"I want to know how to Link data between Cubes"

And I will do it on Performance Modeler.

I don't use Performance Modeler but I believe it is not too difficult. Go to the IBM documention for Performance Modeler at (http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/ctm1/ ... /index.jsp and check out the section called "Creating Links".

Lui, I wonder if you have thought about your options for the design of the cubes. You have a cube with 20 dimensions and another with 35 dimensions. If you start using the accumulation links with rules I can imagine that you are going to run into problems with performance. Isn't it possible that some of those dimensions are actually attributes of elements in the other dimensions ? Are you familiar with the concept of attributes in TM1?

Hi rmackenzie,

I'm not familiar with the concept of attributes but I'm reading it now, the thing is, Cubes built with dimensions right? But how do I link this cubes data? or should I create a New Cube that contains the dimension that I want? How about the measures?

Regards,

Lui

PS

I want to create a report that comes from different department.

Yes, cubes are built from dimensions. And dimensions contain elements formed into hierarchies and those elements can also have attributes. Take you cube - resflight - you don't have to use every column in your source table and make a dimension from it. Some of those columns are going to be element attributes. For example, you have 10 dimensions in your cube relating to either date or time. Not that you have to be like everyone else, but a lot of cubes have only 1 or 2 time dimensions for reporting across a period of time (days, weeks, months, quarters etc). Perhaps some of those time and date dimensions are just attributes of the flights, and not actually dimensions that would contain a hierarchy that you would use for drill-downs to explore the data.

Maybe you could investigate the report and find out what fields it contains so you can workout what dimensions you need in your cube and what dimensions are not necessary?
