Data Security with Cube Meausre

Post by macsir »

We have some cognos reports coming from TM1 cube but we would like to allow different users to access different measures in that cube. What is the easiest way to control this situation?
I know two sets of reports would be the easiest but can we combine them together? Any thought would be appreciated.
In TM1,the answer is always yes though sometimes with a but....

Thanks, Yes, but could you be more specific? :)

Do you mean you would like to be directed to specific documentation or parts of the manual? Element security is what you use to make different elements accessible to some groups and not others. As far as the scant detail you have provided in your question, "element security" answers it.

Yeah, I know this in TM1. But actually what I want is when users login to Cognos portal and run the report, the report will automatically differentiate each user and let him access different measures from the cube. Our cognos security is separated from TM1 security currently. So I don't think we can utilize TM1 security at the moment.

If you want to apply data-security then TM1 security is the way to go.
If you don't want to use TM1 security I think the only option you have is to setup multiple reports with different measures selected and restrict access to these reports on a user (group) level.

In order for your Cognos BI report users to run reports based off of a TM1 cube, you still need to permission them in TM1. So you have to secure the cubes inside TM1. So you might as well go ahead and secure the "measure" dimension too. With this way the security will be controlled in one place (i.e. TM1) instead of spreading in TM1 and BI.

Can you elaborate on how Cognos security is different from TM1?
