Documentation Update: Websheet Export Limitations - Exporting TM1 Active Forms not supported in TM1 Web when Microsoft Excel is not on the web server

Product documentation

Abstract
TM1 Websheets that contain TM1 Active Forms cannot successfully export from TM1 Web as either a slice, snapshot, or PDF file when you run the IBM Cognos TM1 Web server on a web server that does not have Microsoft Excel. An "Operation Failed" error displays.

Content

Websheet Export Limitations
The following limitations about exporting from IBM® Cognos® TM1® Web apply only when Microsoft Excel is not present on the TM1 Web server.

This condition applies when you set ExcelWebPublishEnabled=T in the tm1s.cfg file. For more details, see ExcelWebPublishEnabled parameter:
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/ctm1/ ... abled.html

Websheets with Active Forms
When Microsoft Excel is not present on the TM1 Web server, Websheets that contain TM1 Active Forms do not successfully export as either a slice, snapshot, or PDF file. An "Operation Failed" error displays.

Websheets without Active Forms
When Microsoft Excel is not present on the TM1 Web server, the following limitations apply to exporting Websheets that do not contain Active Forms.

Slice to Excel/Snapshot to Excel:

- OLE controls present in the Websheet are converted to images.
- Layout may be inconsistent between the Websheet and the resulting Excel worksheet/workbook.
- Headers and footers in the Worksheet are not exported.
- Form control states are not updated/displayed in the resulting worksheet

Export to PDF:

- Images present in the Websheet are not exported.
- Charts present in the Websheet are exported to a separate page in the resulting PDF file.
- OLE and form controls are not exported.
- Headers and footers are not exported.

Using the DisableWritebackOnDisconnect Tm1p.ini parameter

Document Notes

Abstract
When enabled in Tm1p.ini, the DisableWritebackOnDisconnect parameter removes protection on worksheet cells containing TM1 worksheet formulas when there is no active connection to a TM1 server.

Resolution

When DisableWritebackOnDisconnect=T in Tm1p.ini, worksheet cells containing TM1 formulas that write to the TM1 server remain active and write to the server as long as an active server connection is available. However, when this parameter is enabled and the TM1 Perspectives client is not connected to a TM1 server, cells containing TM1 formulas that write to the server are no longer protected. In this case, entering a value in any worksheet cell containing a TM1 formula that writes to the TM1 server results in the TM1 formula being overwritten. TM1 formulas that write to the server include DBR, DBRW, DBRA, DBS, DBSA, DBSS, and DBSW. Setting DisableWritebackOnDisconnect=T also restores multiple level undo/redo and multiple copy/paste operations in a worksheet containing TM1 formulas when there is no active server connection.

DisableWritebackOnDisconnect has a similar effect as DisableWritebackOnTM1Formulas. The important distinction between these two parameters is that DisableWritebackOnDisconnect applies only when there is no active server connection, while DisableWritebackOnTM1Formulas applies at all times.

Using the DisableWritebackOnTM1Formulas Tm1p.ini parameter

Document Notes

Abstract
When enabled in Tm1p.ini, the DisableWritebackOnTM1Formula parameter prevents writeback to the TM1 server when you enter a value in a cell containing a TM1 worksheet formula.

I'm curious if anyone has installed FP3 and if they have encountered any problems. We have installed it on our server, and in TM1 Web we can no longer enter data for numeric elements, for most of our input cubes. They are greyed out, as if there is a rule or security on them. All string elements work fine, and in one cube, some numeric elements also work. We have reported it to IBM, but don't yet know what is causing it, to determine if it's an issue with FP3, or something more specific to our installation. We have checked that it doesn't seem to be related to security, since it occurs for admin and non-admin users, and also only occurs in TM1 Web - when the same users log in to Architect, everything works fine. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

I don't know if it's related, but there is an issue where old versions of the MSCOMCTL.OCX file don't work. It might be worth replacing the copy on the server install of Excel in case TM1web is using it?
