What CE license do you need to be a TM1 Admin?

Post by jameswebber »

Hi Guys,
I’m a little confused about IBM licensing (as per usual http://www.tm1forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6425)

We have 1 “IBM Cognos Express Administrator” licence, which should be assigned to me for setup / more IT related / framework related tasks.
However we would like a few users to have TM1 ‘ADMIN’ rights to be able to ruin chores, access control cubes etc.
If a user has an Xcelerator or Contributor license. Is there any reason why they can’t have full TM1 cube admin rights. I can’t seem to find any documentation that says you must have the
“IBM Cognos Express Administrator” licence. I see you need it to use replication

Anyone else got any insights into this?

In regular TM1 you don't need to be an ADMIN to run a chore/ process, or access a control cube. For running chores and processes the user simply needs READ access to the object. For access to control cubes you can give them WRITE permissions on the control cubes. ADMIN rights per object can be granted to allow for more heavy lifting like metadata creation etc. But none of these permissions require that the user be a full ADMIN. Based on my epxerience with CE, I don't think there would be any difference in that application although I could be wrong. Regards your question about how the licensing works, I'm not sure. However, I was just thinking you could legitimately work around the issue.

Thanks Rmackenzie
Just thinking that giving access would mean I would need to provide additional access to new cubes / elements etc whenever they are created and this user is a trusted super user.

Do you do this manually or via TI?

The ADMIN permission on objects can be set manually, by rules, by TI; the same as regular security. The specifics are here - ADMIN is just another level like READ and WRITE.

It would be great if there was a different level for a cube to allow users to save public views, without them getting the other permissions that come with ADMIN.

Hi

Response to your original question: I think Xcelerator User or Complete User roles can be set as Admins (a big advantage of CE that no need for additional Modeler-type licenses). I am not quite sure about the Planner User but I would presume the same.

Thanks Matyas and Robin,
I think my preference for at least one of my users is just to give them full TM1 admin rights. Public views and those sort of things being examples of annoying issues I'm likely to stumble across.

I had figured it was okay to give a an xcelerator user could do this as this https://www-304.ibm.com/jct03001c/softw ... FF00372478
says what an xcelerator can’t do and doesn’t list anything about TM1 admin.
F) IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator User:
- IBM Cognos Express Manager
- IBM Cognos Administration
- IBM Cognos Framework Manager (including IBM Cognos Map Manager)
- IBM Cognos Express Advisor
- IBM Cognos Insight
- IBM Cognos Report Studio
- IBM Cognos Query Studio
- IBM Cognos Business Insight Advanced
- IBM Cognos Mobile
- IBM Cognos Viewer
- IBM Cognos Express Planner
- IBM Cognos Express Performance Modeler

Thanks heaps for your input
