Adding TM1 in normal excel
Hi,
I want to add TM1tab in normal excel, this excel should be opened on normal desktop where there is no TM1 installed. In excel 2007.
The excel add should be loaded into TM1 from normal excel to TM1 database.
Please give me hints how to do this feature, I do not have any idea about this.

Re: Adding TM1 in normal excel
Being as nice and patient as possible I can interpret your post in 2 ways
1/ you want to use TM1 in Excel on a computer where TM1 is not installed and have the TM1 ribbon availabl in Excel (good luck with that!)
or
2/ you want to know how to install TM1 Perspectives (run setup.exe, click "next" a few times)
Are you serious?

Why don't you just go and think about it for a while. After all I'm sure that's what your customer is paying you good money for all that expert TM1 consulting knowledge.charan wrote:Hi Lotsaram,

I can't tell if this is a question or a statement but are you really expecting to be able to use the features of a piece of software without installing that piece of software? This is like trying to play angry birds on your phone without installing, er, angry birds.charan wrote:Hi Lotsaram,

I can't tell either, nor am I certain what "it" has been "done" (possibly thinking about it as Lotsa requested?), nor am I entirely clear on what "only under TM1 environment" means.asutcliffe wrote:I can't tell if this is a question or a statement but are you really expecting to be able to use the features of a piece of software without installing that piece of software? {Grizzled Old Coot Down By The Feed Store} Used to be, back in the olden days (up to at least mid-range 8.x at least, possibly as late as 8.4) that you didn't have to install the TM1 client software but could simply pick up the add-in from a network share via a shortcut. (At least where the users had a minimum of Power User under the old Windows XP environment. We used to do that.) By 9.0 increasing reliance on .ocx's and the like made that "non-viable" and there's no way that I'd even attempt it in a current version, particularly with the Ribbon involved, and even more if the O/S is Vista or 7. However that's the closest I can think of to a situation of having the functionality without having the software installed and it's definitely something that was lost in the days of yore. {/Grizzled Old Coot Down By The Feed Store}

Re: Adding TM1 in normal excel
Like Alan mentioned, you can run Perspectives without running the TM1 installation program. However, you still have to have the DLLs and OCXs available and you must register them. It's been a number of years (it was version 8.something) since I did that but I have done it before. I wouldn't even attempt it now.

Re: Adding TM1 in normal excel
Perhaps Charan means if I am in a standard version of excel on a pc that has tm1 installed how do I then get the tm1 addin loaded
If that is the question the answer is to use excel to open the tm1p.xla file (In CE by default on a 64 bit pc it's located here)
"C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Cognos Express Clients\Xcelerator Client\IBM Cognos Express Xcelerator Client\bin\tm1p.xla"

Re: Adding TM1 in normal excel
If that were the case it would be a contender for the Forum's Worst Question Award of 2012[1] given that the OP has stated three times now:jameswebber wrote:Perhaps Charan means if I am in a standard version of excel on a pc that has tm1 installed how do I then get the tm1 addin loaded![]()
(original post)where there is no TM1 installed
(first reply to Lotsaram)where TM1 is not installed
(second reply to Lotsaram)or can be opened under where TM1 is not installed
I think it's more likely that the OP wants to run the client without installing it (though how that sits with "It should be opened only under TM1 enviornment" is less than clear), but they seem quite adamant about it being "not installed".
But just on the remote chance that it really is a failure to understand how the add in works or is loaded into Excel, may I suggest putting the feet up, grabbing a malted milkshake and doing a little tube viewing?
(And yes, I know that the path has changed yet again in 10.1, which means that an updated version of the video needs to be done, but the OP shows their version as 9.5.2. which was the version used in the film.)

[1] No, we don't really have such an award. But I know that some people would love to submit a few nominations for one.

Re: Adding TM1 in normal excel
Guys thank you,
It was my misunderstanding from the demo TM1 plug in, like there showed Hyperion plug in Excel as Add on,
I showed same thing for TM1 by adding tm1p file as Add-in in Excel.
Now what I have to do is I need to install TM1 client version.
My request is there any diffrence between client version software and Server version software.
I can install same version(server) installed, by enabling the client option during installation or we must get license for client version as well.
Please suggest me.
TM1 9.5.2
Excel 2007
Thank you.

Re: Adding TM1 in normal excel
Before anyone jumps on you for that, I must confess that I've always found the fact that one install package did both client and server installation to be distinctly... odd... not to mention confusing for new users.charan wrote:My request is there any diffrence between client version software and Server version software.
10.1 does have a separate client install package (at a "mere" 1.2 gigabytes, a trifle, really...) but 9.5.2 didn't... not on my downloads list anyway. You used the one package to install both. (At least you did if you were running 32 bit; I can't recall whether the 64 bit package installed client or whether you had to run the 32 bit package to install that. There is of course no 64 bit client for TM1.)
However that doesn't matter, the key point that you need to understand is that client and server are almost certainly[1] licenced separately. They are two separate and distinct products which just happen to work together. The link that I posted earlier explained how the client add-in works, and if you're unclear about the role of the server you might want to view this video.
The server software runs on a single server box on your network and serves up the data. The client software allows end users to connect to the server program and read and/or write the data. You generally install the server software on ONE box, you generally install the client software on multiple boxes which are used by the end users. You may use the same installation package to do it under 9.5.2, but you should only install the software that belongs on the machine that you're installing to. Server for the Windows server, client for the end users. (Yes, you'll quite often install client on the server box too for administration purposes, but there would be no cause to install server on a client machine and you may well be breaking your licence (maybe, but with the "transparency" of IBM's licencing, who knows?) if you do so.)
Depends on your licencing model, but there's no way that you could have bought a server licence without buying some client licences as well. Named user licences seem to be this week's favoured method.charan wrote:I can install same version(server) installed, by enabling the client option during installation or we must get license for client version as well.
[1] Allowing for the impenetrable black art that is better known as IBM's licencing conditions.

Nice post Alan.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that find IBM licensing more complicated than the US election system.
