Hi All,
Need a suggestion. We have to build a reports on top of TM1 cubes.
If we have to Categorise reports in terms of High, Medium and simple reports -which reporting functionalty is better.
Keeping in mind report performance, farmatting stuff etc.....
Is good to go with
1) Tm1 Active for forms, slice report?
2) TM1 Web?
3) Cognos BI tool?
Please advise
Regards,
Ravi

Re: Tm1 Reports
I suggest you need to refine your question a bit. Each of the above have their pros and cons (eg functionality, cost, complexity etc) and the best choice depends on your requirements. Personally, I'd avoid Cognos BI integration unless you had a good reason. By the way, TM1 web is just a way a user can access a slice or active form rather than a type of report.ravi wrote: If we have to Categorise reports in terms of High, Medium and simple reports -which reporting functionalty is better.

One of the great things about TM1 is it's flexibility. However this makes it difficult to make blanket statements like "Active forms are better than slices" or "Rules are better than TI".

Re: Tm1 Reports
Hi,
Thanks for reply.
I mentioned Cognos BI intergration because I thought to build complex reports under BI using tm1 datasource example reports like inter-complany elim report, total project cost, opex reports etc at summerised level.
then I would create Medium and simple reports reports using tm1 active forms and slice reports/views etc....
I am primarly looking for reports performance issue- currently we have perfomance issue in cognis BI report which is built on tm1 cube(huge cube)
Could you please advise on this.
Thank you
Ravi

Then first tackle this issue, rather than starting with reporting.ravi wrote:I am primarly looking for reports performance issue- currently we have perfomance issue in cognis BI report which is built on tm1 cube(huge cube)
(Obviously, working on cubes you always need to have the reporting in the back of your head).
Can you split up the cubes? (do you need all intersections?)
Can you convert rules to TI?
Do you use dimensions that are real life actually multiple hierarchies within the same dimension?
Is the network speed a negative factor?
And so on.

Re: Tm1 Reports
Hi, If you are talking reporting then maybe web is best for you so that is Tm1 web or Cognos BI. Otherwise you have excel addin perspective to deal with and lots of issues that could go with it around deployment and performance
Tm1 web Slice reports - Not recommended as this is not dynamic, probably only use for admin or very small cube reporting functions
Tm1 web Active forms - flexible, can run TI buttons, can enter data, leverage off excel functionaility to build reports so training not huge (unless you get complex reporting requirements), problems may be with the complexity and bug type issues that arise with the tm1web forms.. but still probably your easiest option here
Cognos BI - If you have a good report developer (who knows Multi dimensional reporting) on hand then test this route BUT get them on board early as the cube design is important here - there are some things you can do easy in the cube and Tm1 prior to handing it to a report developer, .... powerful reporting tool, looking more at summary data, no write back though, looks pretty if done right, leads towards furhter reporting and dashboarding integration from other sources, longer term I would take this route fro reporting but you need the skills..

Re: Tm1 Reports
You have not stated your version of TM1 or Cognos BI but I would go with Active Reports and TM1 using Dynamic Query Mode. The performance is very good although your success will lie in all the points that BigB has pointed out.
The other options with TM1Web and Perspectives unfortunately don't have the same visual effect that Active Reports offers for users.
Cognos Insight despite its many handicaps and potential enhancements could play a role here.

Re: Tm1 Reports
Hi
Sorry for late reply.
We are on tm1 9.5.2 and Cognos BI 10.1.1
If we have to chose Active forms for reporting purpose- how many active forms can I have in single tm1 servers. what are the limitations? 1000+ rows in active form reports performance is good?
Regards,
Ravi

Re: Tm1 Reports
Hi Ravi,
Sorry I am not sure if you are asking for TM1 active forms or BI active reports. But if you were asking for Active Reports.
BI Active Reports could be more used for Dashboard and are often offline i.e. users download a mht file which contains all the data and the user can click to get to 5 customers by state etc etc. They can also be run from Cognos Connection but its not the right forum to get more information on this but with a good BI guy this can be achieved.
For more Transaction Reports you can use Report Net with some prompts based on TM1 Dimension Elements.
" how many active forms can I have in single tm1 servers." There is no restriction on this.
Also 1000+ rows in active forms can be done but would question, What are you planning to achieve ?
Cheers

Hello Raviravi wrote:1000+ rows in active form reports performance is good?
Please do not mix reports and drills to (for example) a relational database.
What do you or your users intend to do with reports containing 1000+ rows?
Then it's a dump of data, not a report.
Just my 2 ç.
