Xcelerator clients installation issues

Post by kpk »

Hello,

We have been testing the new Cognos Express 10.1 (focusing on Xcelerator) and found issues during the installation of the client components onto workstation(s) in the same domain.
On the server both installation was errorless and the clients operate fine.

On any other workstation clients the installation does not give any error message but when we start the clients (Architect and/or XceleratorClient) we get the following messages:

@Architect
Fatal Error
Error loading client notifier properties.
You may need to uninstall and re-install the client.
Exit (button)

@Xcelerator
Microsoft Visual Basic
Run-time error ‘53’:
File not found: tm1xl.ocx

Server: MS Window 2008 R2
Client workstation: Windows XP SP3 ENG (5.1.2600), Office 2003 SP3 ENG, both totally updated and service packed, .NET3.5SP1

Any help would be great.

Kind Regards,
Peter

when you install Architect and Xcelerator on the client workstation, is it login as administrator or the normal user login ?

We have tried both. The result was the same.

Is the ActiveX Control tm1xl.ocx really missing in the bin-directory of a Xcelerator Perspectives installation on a client machine as stated by the error message ?

If it is in fact missing, what happens after you did a Copy&Paste of the missing file from the working Xcelerator Perspectives installation on thes server machine to the non-working Xcelerator Perspectives installation on a client machine ?

Do you know the IBM Technote 1461782 ?

Unable to launch Perspectives: Run-time error '53':File not found: tm1xl.ocx

Resolving the problem

[...]

Making sure that the following Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable patch (see link below) is installed on the client machines (in addition to registering those files and launching perspectives as an admin) may resolve the issue, but no guarantees are made. This patch would always need to correspond with the version of C++ that we use in development, which as of the most recently released version is 2005. For future versions (higher than 9.5) check with TM1 Support to be sure of the C++ version to use.

When you compare the software installed on the server machine vs the one installed on the client machine, what about the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) ?

I found that although I had the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable installed I needed the SP1 version
