client groups

Post by dumbomichael »

Hi guys

when i add new groups to the database, under security- clients/groups..., it gives me an error the first time i add the group and close the box. when i reopen it, i have to add the group again as it wasnt saved the first time. i have to do this(2 times) every time i add a group.

when the server sets restarted, the groups i have added seem to vanish. the old groups are still there. this causes an issue under one of the rules we have as if the group has a rule allocated to it, all the rules in that section seem to not work.

can you have too many groups? or what could possible be causing this issue? this issue does not occur if i add clients.

The default maximum number of groups than can be created in a server session is a miserly 20. You can change this to a more reasonable number with the GroupsCreationLimit parameter in the tm1s.cfg settings. It will be effective on the next server restart.

The number of groups that you can create in one session may also be dependent on the version you're running. I recall that prior to v9.1 there was a maxium limit of somewhere around 100 even with the cfg parameter. I think starting with v9.1 you could specify a more much larger number. I don't recall if there was a limit to the number of groups in a session in intermediate versions, but in v9.5 the limit is 65,535. I also don't think there's a limit if you'er adding groups via TI.

thanks for your response. unfortunately, we are not creating more than three or for at a time, and when the server starts, these groups are deleted. we have aproximately only 150 groups.

we are using version 9.5.2

What is the exact error message?

This number of groups shouldn't be a problem.

Could it be that the TM1 security files in the TM1 data directory are set to read-only?

And what security mode are you using? This is very relevant information!! If new groups created within the TM1 security GUI are being "deleted" on restart of the server then it sounds like you are using CAM, in which case you need to maintain security and create groups in Cognos Access Manager and not in the TM1 server itself.

Please check all the rules written . Any rules which are not getting saved would create this problem.

hi guys

Thanks for your assistance. There was a rule written in the past that was that was associated with the groups, and is no longer used and was never deleted. i have now deleted it and it seems the problem has gone. thanks for your assistance, it is greatly appreciated.
