ViewConstruct Using Significantly More Memory in 9.5.2

Post by mberson »

I'm working on a upgrade from the following:
Windows 2003, TM1 9.1 FP3 to
Windows 2008 R2, TM1 9.5.2 FP1

I'm seeing a significant increase in memory usage in the new version; obviously with a tremendous amount of new features between these 2 versions I would expect some increase. In the old environment, the TM1 instance would run at approximately 13 GB in memory - this is after a restart of the service and processing of all their nightly loads. The same scenario on the upgraded OS and the upgraded software runs at approximately 30 GB in memory - about 2.5x the old setup.

Additionally, one of the processes runs several ViewConstructs to cache data. This runs fine on the old version with a MaximumViewSize of 500 MB. In the new version, some of these ViewConstructs are failing even after bumping up the MaximumViewSize to 3000 MB. Assuming this could be an issue with Rules/Feeders, I've also proven this on a cube with no rules. Has there been some change to the functionality of ViewConstruct?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

What version of the TM1 9.5.2 FP1 software are you running ?

Are you already running TM1 9.5.2 FP1 HF5 or newer ?

TM1 9.5.2 FP1 HF5 includes two patches addressing defects of the TI fct ViewConstruct logged as APAR PM49801 and PM54252:

(1)
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/entdocv ... wg1PM49801
PM49801: TM1 VIEWCONSTRUCT IS NOT WORKING - OUTOFMEMORY EXCEPTION <<< MEMORY_TEMP_POOL_EXCEEDED >>>

Error description
After unloading a cube, any attempt to reconstruct the view fails.

(2)
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/entdocv ... wg1PM54252
PM54252: EXCESSIVE START UP TIME...UNKNOWN

Error description
Following the Initial Calc Chore - comprised of 'CubeProcessFeeders' and 'ViewConstructs' - the duration of the chore has jumped from 30 mins to 1 hr to over 1 day.
