One of the biggest things is that the locking model was completely revamped between those versions. I suggest obtaining a copy of the release notes for 9.1 and 9.4 (there are links to the documentation downloads in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum) and reading through that. If any part of your model is based on the assumptions around the 9.0 locking model you may need to redesign parts of it.

Another issue is... are you on 32 bit, or 64 bit? You'll find that the memory requirements go up prodigiously from 9.0 to 9.1 (or at least we did, to the extent that we couldn't make that move) so if you're on 32 bit you'll need to be sure that your model will fit in the memory used.

No, it doesn't intrinsically need it... you can run a 32 bit model in 9.4 or 9.5. However you may be more restricted in the size of that model than you are in 9.0.

Incidentally, if you're upgrading because 9.0 is no longer supported you should be aware that 9.4 will only be supported until the end of September next year as well. You may want to consider jumping into the 9.5 series to save yourself going through the whole process in a year's time again if that's your reason.
