View Transaction Log not executing
Hello All
I am running Perspectives on the TM1 server (version 9.5.1) and whilst logged in as ADMIN, cannot launch the "View Transaction Logs" from server explorer. Has anyone encoutered this issue and was there a resolution ?
The user id belongs to all three ADMIN groups.
The TM1s.cfg defines a logging directory which is being written to.
All cubes on the server have logging enabled.
TM1P8.lic is set up in the cognos\tm1\bin and c:\windows directories
Many thanks in advance

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
is the option in the menu greyed out, or visible but does nothing?
If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

Hi Steve
It is visible but does nothing. I've checked to make sure a window wasn't opened behind others too.

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
We're having the same issue with 9.5.1 in one of our environments. We have the same version installed elsewhere and the transaction log viewer works fine there, so it must be a combination of the version and something environment-specific.
Did you install your 9.5.1 as a clean installation or over an older version without removing it first? I'm starting to suspect that installing over an older version can have this effect because of the change in format of transaction logs.

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
We were lucky enough to have a brand new server, so it was a clean new install.

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
I have seen the same in an environment that was also citrix deployed (noted from your footer).
When connected to the 9.5.1 server via 9.5.1 perspectives in a citrix excel session, selecting the Transaction Log did nothing.
When connected to the same server via a local excel session, it worked fine.
I never investigated the issue further, as the Admins had access to local excel installs if/when they needed to access the Transaction Logs.
Coincidence?

You might be onto something there. We use TM1 via Citrix as well.

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
We have the same issue here on 951 deployed over Citrex, not sure which HF we are on.
Does anyone have 951 Transactions log working when deployed over Citrex?
Cheers,

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
Just to add some further info as I have tested further.
I installed 9.5.1 Perspectives onto a laptop without Citrix, onto a straightforward Win XP operating system, and the transaction log worked, using Excel 2007
On the actual TM1 server, which is on Win 2008R2 server, I have installed 9.5.1 Perspectives on Excel 2007 and it DOES NOT work.......which by the way I am accessing via Remote Desktop Connection.
The Citrix farm is made up of three Citrix XenApp servers each with Win 2003 Enterprise Edition operating system, each loaded with Excel 2007 and 9.5.1 Perspectives, and again the transaction log viewer does not come up.
At the moment only a hard install on a local laptop, outside Citrix, works.
The plot thickens !!!!

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
Not sure about Citrix and Server OS, but I had the same behaviour with Perspectives (9.5.x) under Win 7.
I could get the transaction log to work by launching Excel / TM1 one time as admin (right mouse click, run as admin). Next sessions work fine, even if Win UAC sets back the user to non admin by default.

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
A colleague asked me about something similar yesterday. Our issue matched the one described here...

So, apart from the fact that the fix is for CX and we were getting an error message that none of you seem to be getting...

Re: View Transaction Log not executing
Andy,
This is a known issue and had IBM Support send us the file and the issue was resolved.
Backup the registry just in case and or take a snapshot and test before you deploy.
Cheers

Er, yes, that is pretty much implied by the fact that I posted the URL to a documented fix on the IBM website.afshin wrote:This is a known issue...
I just copied it from another server.afshin wrote:...and had IBM Support send us the file...
Now where's the fun in that?afshin wrote:Backup the registry just in case and or take a snapshot and test before you deploy.
