I've never come across a limit when writing rules. There's a word wrap that happens in TI, but no truncating that I've ever noticed. The rules seem to wrap to screen. Rules are kept in plain text files, so there shouldn't be any issue with long lines. Apart from being a pain to read.

However yes, there is a 256 character limit for data entered in cells in versions before 9.4 when unicode was introduced.

Reread Martin's answer - I believe that 9.5.1 > 9.4. But I can't recall what the maximum now is - probably 65536.
However, although TM1 can store text, it doesn't provide good facilities to work with it.
And, as Martin says, rules aren't stored in cubes.

You are correct

Probably. It may not exactly be 65536, but it's a lot, whatever it is. Unless you're using TM1 for something that it's clearly not designed for (e.g. CRM or Document Management) you will not hit this limit.
