Memory used by Cube

Post by santu469 »

Hi All,

We often report the total memory used by each cube from all servers to our business. We usually take memory used from the "}StatsbyCube" control cube selecting "Total Memory Used" from the filter. But when we open a server in TM1 Perspectives and click on Cubes List of cubes will be displayed in Properties Window along with many properties such as Security Owner, Replication Server and Memory Used etc. One user asked us what is this "Memory Used" in Properties Window and how is it different from what we report to business. I am not able to figure out why the values in "}StatsbyCube" and the "Memory Used" in Properties Window are different. Can some one explain me how this "Memory Used" property is getting populated in Properties Window and why is it different form the one displayed in "}StatsbyCube" Control cube.

Thanks for your time.

That is a good question. Have you checked whether the displayed value in the properties window matches memory used for data entry or memorry for data entry + feeders (or a close approximation to some other combination)?

If so that's your answer. If not then I think only IBM TM1 engineering will be able to answer the question.

I tried all combinations with no luck and I didnt find any piece of information about this "Memory Used" property in TM1 Documentation also. If any one could crack this mystery, I would be very thankful.

Thanks for your time and reply

As far as I am aware the memory displayed in the server explorer window is memory used when the server was started. The value never changes. This is the same for cubes and dimensions as you can view the memory used by dimensions as well (other values foir dimensions and cubes like number of elements etc do change),

Jim.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the clarification. Is there a way to export these values in excel as I am typing the memory used for each cube and dimension manually into excel right now.

This is not true (and to make sure I did a quick test).
After starting up a server there is an initial memory used in the properties pane of SE for each cube, but when you open a cube and do some slicing & dicing (or just open some defined views) the memory in properties pane will grow.

I think this may have to do with version which is the reason I was a little cautious. I know it is true for version 9.1.4 SP3 as I have seen the exact behaviour in this version. I have not checked it in later version. What version did you test it on?

I did it on 9.5.1 HF17 now, but earlier I also spotted it on few other versions (not able to recall exact version numbers).

Hi,

anyone have any clue how to export the numbers from the properties pane for time being or should it be done only manually?
