TM1 Contributor User Connection Count

Post by vistana »

Hi All,

I have TM1 Contributor installed and working but I came across to some error about maximum number of user connection exceeded.

A. I set my user to max connection of 1.
Log in to Contributor, open an application and select one of the nodes. After selecting the node to open the view I get an error that "maximum number of connection allowed for the client has been exceeded".

B. I set same user to max connection of 2 in the client security of TM1.
Log in to Contributor, open an application and select one of the nodes. After selecting the node to open the view I was able to launch the view.

Does this mean that when using contributor, it is taking 2 licenses (1 to log in and then another 1 when you open a view)? Or I missed some settings that cause the maximum connection error?

Appreciate feedback.

Thanks,

Ana

Licensing for TM1 Contributor is named user based not concurrent connections based.
Yes Contributor is opening a connection to the TM1 server on 2 separate threads (one for the workflow tree and one for the cube views) but it is not "taking 2 licenses" as the same user credentials are being reused.

You should therefore make sure the client property "maximum connections" is NOT set to 1. (Note, if you intend to let users also access TM1 via TM1 Web or Excel then you should also think about making it a number > 2 as well ...)

Thank you for your reply. So this means that IBM will treat the license still 1 user name even I am active in both excel and web or in contributor at the same time.

Named user as the name implies equates to a person. If you have any specific questions really you should ask IBM or your reseller.
