Hi
I'm having problems with TI processes which work the first time I write them, and then subsequently fail to work, and instead 'hang'.
I have a main cube with lots of rules attached which I run TI processes against to extract different subsets of data into static cubes that I have
reports runing off. I can cancel the TI process when it 'hangs' and have then restarted the server, but that's not cleared the problem.
I searched this forum for any hints and found a similar post from over a year ago, where the poster solved his problem by changing something in the rules
attached to the cube ( for example, adding a space somewhere and then re-saving the rules ). I've just tried this and the problem is resolved and
the TI processes run. Is this a bug in 9.4 ? Although I upgaded a few months ago, I've only noticed this problem now, as this month we run a
particular model and publish reports, which I'm trying to produce.
I'm rather a novice with TM1 and have lots to learn. Any suggestions and solutions as to what causes this problem would be gratefully received.
Many thanks
Louise

Re: Process hanging in TM1 9.4
Hi Louise,
It might help if you link to the previous post. Re-saving the rules just sounds like the intent was to re-process the feeders for that cube. It's not clear why that would help in your case given the info you've provided. Also, can you expand on what happens when the process hangs? Is there anything in the logs?
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Process hanging in TM1 9.4
Hi
Thank you for your comments. I shall try and give more details.
The previous post I found which sounded similar was here:
http://forums.olapforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3326
I am running TM1 via Perspectives for Excel. When the process is 'hanging' the server is working at 100%,
but Excel on my PC has a status of 'Not responding'. The process, when working, will take a max of 30sec to run,
when it's hanging I've left it for over 20mins and then cancelled it. The logs only record the cancel, there are no error
messages.
Please could you explain what could be happening with the feeders , that re-saving the rules attached to the cube would make
a difference. Is there perhaps something I need to be doing to the cube before running the process, or something that needs to be
in the process that I'm missing. I'm not sure where in the Manual I should be lokoing to find out these things.
Many thanks for any help

Thanks for the link.
I'm not sure why re-saving the rule would help in this instance. What I was getting at was that saving a rule file forces the feeders to be re-processed for a cube. Sometimes when you're using conditional feeders, you might need to do this to ensure a cube is fed properly.
What does your TI process do? How long does re-saving the rule take?
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Process hanging in TM1 9.4
Hi Alex
Thank you for your reply.
I have a number of processes that take consolidated figures from the cube to load summary cubes that I have reports run off.
I'm in the process of having to produce various reports for the department and so haven't had time to do proper testing of the problem.
However, every time I go into the main cube to make changes to the rules, and then try to reload my summary cubes with the new results,
the problem is occuring. The TI's run off views from the main cube. Today, when a process hung, I opened the view from the main cube ( luckily
it wasn't a huge view, and it opened successfully ). When I then ran the TI process, it ran quickly and completed with no problems.
Everything continued to work fine, untill I had to make a further change in the rules on the main cube, and I then had the same problem, which again was resolved in the same way.
However, some of the views that I use are huge and will not open from within the cube. So should a process hang that uses one of these larger views,
I don't know how I'd solve the problem.
Do you know why opening a view would help ? It all seems a bit hit or miss as to what is solving the problem, and I certainly have no idea why
this problem is happening.
Any futher suggestions would be gratefully received.

Re: Process hanging in TM1 9.4
Hello Louise
Are other users querying the cube when the process hangs?
Does the target cube have any rules attached?
Have you tried to executing the Process without actually writing to the target cube?
You can try and run the TI with only an AsciiOutPut function in your data tab to create a text file of your data to isolate the problem.
If that works fine you can use the text file as a source to import the data into the target cube by another process.
If the Process still hangs check whether you are using a dynamic subset in your source view.
Cheers

Re: Process hanging in TM1 9.4
Hi
Thank you for your reply. I've been busy getting reports out and have found a way of getting the processes to work.
I'm the only person accessing the source cube and some of the target cubes have rules some don't. I have found that when one of
the processes hang, if I open the view on the source cube first, then it will not hang. However, some of the views used in the
processes are too large to open, but as long as I open one of the smaller ones, then any of the processes run OK.
Any ideas why this would help ? It's a bit of an 'added' step to get all the processess running.
Many thanks
