Comparing Values In the cube

Hi All,

Could you please tell me how can i compare the values of two elemnts (DAY1 and DAY2) in the cube when the DAY 2 values are entered using a TI process?

My aim is to compare the previous day values with the current day values when i enter the current data in the cube using a csv and by running a TI process.Any rules or functions are there instead of doing it manually?

Kindly give me a solution.

Have you tried opening the cube and checking them??

Depends to what end you wish to check them, but an Excel file that grabs the values from both days will do. Most of our reconcilliation tasks involve using Excel to grab data from TM1 and either compare with other data from TM1 or the source file itself.

Thanks for your immediate reponse.

Actually, i run a process everyday to upload the respective day's values into the cube. So the cube displays only that days value based on my day selection.And i cannot compare it with the previous day's values. I have my view where the day will be selected from the combobox not as the measure dimension. I think by changing the view and putting the "days" along the measure dimension will allow me to view all the days values at the same time even if there is a csv upload for the current date.

I just want to know whether this is the standard solution or is there any other method?

You have a cube that imports data on a daily basis and you want to compare two days' data side by side?

Go and ask your administrator (please tell me you're an end user and not the administrator) to organise some training because this should be the second thing covered in a TM1 training course, after how to log on.

I'm a TM1 developer and this is an issue i have come across from one of my clients.

I just want to know whether changing the view is the standard solution or is there any other method?

Prathiksha, sorry to be a grumpy old bore, but if you are asking questions like this then I believe you have some way to go before you can validly call yourself a TM1 developer as the title implies a degree of knowledge and expertise in the product which it seems that you do not have at this time.

Prathiksha It seems to me you are out of your depth here and there is a strong chance you will cause more problems for yourself. If this is a live system please, please, please don't do anything until you have either a) learnt how to use\administer TM1 or b) Found someone who knows what they are doing.

Start with The IBM Cognos TM1 Manuals - the operations guide, but note my comments above.

By simply the changing the view i know my issue can be rectified but i just wanted to know whether there is any other standard solution.

And about attaining the degree of knowledge and expertise in the product, i think such live forums are also meant for that where we can discuss our doubts with other experts.

I may not be a genius in this technology, but since this is a live forum i think you can be little more gentle in sending replies.

I just placed a case for which i needed the exact steps so that i can learn it not to diretly apply it.

I was referring the "Backup & Recovery Manual", still i had some doubts.

Actually, to be honest, this is quite a gentle reply thread to the query - especially as you're refering to yourself as a TM1 Developer.

The community here is generally quite gentle with responses (not as much as the old forum in my opinion, a few harsher comments here than I ever saw in the old forum but not by much).

To be perfectly frank however, if you've not even read the Operations guide which comes with the software, I'm amazed that you're classing yourself as a TM1 developer and have clients. I realise this may sound harsh but it's honestly not - you can do some serious damage to someone's setup if you're unaware of the basic concepts you're asking about (and most people that have gone to a TM1 developer will want their rules / TI / MDX sorted out) so you really, really need to at the very least read and understand the instruction guides if you're offering advice to anyone with a live setup - they come packaged with the software after all.

Once you're up to speed with some of the basic concepts, I'm sure you'll find that the community very helpful with some of the finer points of TM1.

The experts on here (like lotsaram) are normally very helpful, even to beginners, and give a lot of their valuable time. But if you describe yourself as a TM1 developer with clients and then ask some very basic questions you may not get a such a helpful response.

This forum isn't intended as a substitute for training courses or reading the manuals. However, people are normally very happy to discuss areas which are not clear or where there may be different approaches, in which case the more information you can give the better.
