Hi!
Is it possible to set different default subsets in Contributor? We want to set different default subsets for different users and dimensions in Contributor.
We have seen that it can be a problem for end users to find the right subsets in Contributor. To help them we want to set the correct subsets for the different users or user groups. So when they log on the right subsets are choosen and they seen the information they are interested in.
I have only found that I can have one default subset per dimension. We want to have many different default subsets, depending on the user group or user.
Thanks!

I haven't used Contributor yet but I don't see why you can't have multiple private default subsets. You can do that in regular TM1 by just checking the Private and Default check boxes when saving the subset.

Re: Default subset per user in Contributor
From what I understand, svgu, would like to set different default subsets for different groups of users.
This functionality is not available as you can only have 1 defaul subset.
What you can do is create various subsets and then have the users save the subset they use as their private default subset.
As the admin, you cannot create private subsets for the user only public subsets. The user can create and use a private default subset instead of using the public default subset.

Actually, you can. You just can't do it through the TM1 interface. The administrator can create a private default subset and then copy the .sub from their private user folder (on the TM1 server) to any other users private folder. The next time they log in it will be available for use. This step can be repeated as many times as needed. Klugy, but it works.ajain86 wrote:As the admin, you cannot create private subsets for the user only public subsets. Thanks for your replies!
Ajain86 - It is correct that I would like to set different default subsets for different groups of users. I have already created different subsets for the different groups. But the problem is that I want these subsets to be displayed and chosen for the users when they log on.
Tomok - If I do the little work around and copy the .sub on the TM1 server. I can give the users private subsets that the can choose. But these are not automatically choosen for them when they log on.
Do you know if it is possible to set that it shall be the Default / Private subset that shall be presented for the user when they log in, and not the Default / Public subset?

In TM1 private default subsets and views ALWAYS take precedence over public defaults.svgu wrote:Do you know if it is possible to set that it shall be the Default / Private subset that shall be presented for the user when they log in, and not the Default / Public subset?
Re: Default subset per user in Contributor
I thought so too. But I cant't get it right. The fact is that TM1 doesn't select my privat default subset before the public default subset in Contributor.
Also when I "Reset Both Views and tabs" TM1 take the Default Public subset and present the values. TM1 ignore that I have a Default / Private subset for the dimension.

Re: Default subset per user in Contributor
Looked at my problem a little more...
The problem, as I see it, is when I create the view that is used in Contributor. The view has to be a public view and I have to choose public subsets in that view.
Contributor TM1 ignore the fact that the user have a Default Private subset for the dimension. TM1 select the Default Public view. It is possible to manually select the private subset. But TM1 do not choose it automatically.
For me this is strange and wrong. Do you know a way around this?

Re: Default subset per user in Contributor
Well, you didn't mention views in your original posting, only subsets. That's a different ballgame. You can't have a public view that has a private subset referenced in it. You can have a private view that references a public subset but not the other way around. What's more, you don't need the private subset(s) you use in the view to be the "default" subset for that dimension, just a regular private subset.
You need to create a private default view for yourself, referencing the appropriate private subsets and then copy these private subsets and the private default view into the appropriate }vue and }subs folders under each users folder. You should only need to create the default private view once and then copy it into each users folder. The subsets, as mentioned earlier, will have to be created one by one, and then copied in since their contents are different for each user.
I don't know how many users you have but this could become a maintenance nightmare. A better solution may be to create a dynamic subset for the dimensions in question that filter the dimension elements based on a "User Parameter" cube, i.e., one that has the }Clients dimension in it and filters the elements based on a flag in this cube. This link gives an example of how this is done: http://www.bihints.com/username_and_strtomember
