9.5.1 and Excel 2010
Our entire organization is migrating to Windows 7 and Office 2010 in a couple of months. I know Excel 2010 is not supported but is there a way to make TM1 9.5.1 run in Excel 2010? ? I’ve renamed the TM1RibbonX.xlam and every time I launch the TM1 it keeps on returning an error that it cannot find the tm1xl.ocx.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I am running 9.5.1 client on win 7 Excel 2010 combination with no issues (EV is another matter due to .Net conflicts but TM1 server and client in this environment haven't caused any problems.)

Re: 9.5.1 and Excel 2010
How did u set it up? I created a shared folder on the TM1 production box where I pasted the files from the x86 bin folder. Then, from a Windows 7 client with Excel 2010, I created a shortcut of the TM1p.xla from the shared folder. When I execute the shortcut from the Windows client, excel opens and the TM1 dialogue box opens then I get the "Run-time error 55" File not found tm1xl.ocx. I checked the registry in the box and except for 3 entries in the Windows\installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components folder all of the other registry entries points to the shared folder. I also verified that the user had the appropriate access to the folder (I set the user up as admin to the box). Do I need to install the full client on the Windows 7 laptop?
Really appreciate your help on this.
Thanks,
Jose

Re: 9.5.1 and Excel 2010
The problem you are having isn't version dependent this would happen with any recent version of TM1 if you tried to simply copy the bin directory and run Perspectives without properly registering TM1.
If you want to test properly my advice would be to actually install the software.

Re: 9.5.1 and Excel 2010
I've had a few problems with Excel 2010 and 9.5.1, the major one being that Excel 2010 crashes when I try to slice out an active form.

Jorelb acknowledged that in the first line of his first post of this thread. Unfortunately some IT departments like to inflict the latest versions on people "because it's the most recent version". The question then becomes not whether it's supported, but whether it can be made to work.laenen wrote:Excel/Office 2010 is not supported in 9.5.1

Re: 9.5.1 and Excel 2010
lotsaram,
As suggested, I tried installing the client but in the middle of the process I receive an "Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: SetRoles, location:Pkgmgr.exe, command: /iu:IIS-IIS6Mana...."
Did you encounter this during your install? Any ideas how to resolve the conflict?
Thank you
Jose

Re: 9.5.1 and Excel 2010
I apologize. I missed that part about knowing trying to get it to work with a version that is not supported.
I had a customer that did manage to get the product installed and operational on 2010. However, she received repeated run time issues over the subsequent months. I have had a different customer that had it up and running without as many issues (but not pain free).
If I really needed to install this on 2010. I would probably try to focus on these areas to make sure it is installed and running properly.
1. C runtime libraries that TM1 uses. Are the correct ones on the machine and are they accessible (Dependency Walker would come in handy here), etc?
2. Registry settings of the TM1 COM objects. Are they set up appropriately -- Process Mon
3. %APPDATA% directory.
4. User permissions. There are several known issues with Win 7 permissions. This is probably going to play a part in the install.

Re: 9.5.1 and Excel 2010
I found the Technote link below in the IBM website that addresses the issue.
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.w ... RXT&mync=R
I applied the fix and the client installed and it works. We do not have plans to deploy an unsupported IBM TM1 version but we need to test 9.5.1 in our new operating environment.
Thank you everybody.
