Hi All,
Can u plz share ur experience of Numbers of Users that a TM1 Server can Support so that I can have idea about what is the maximum limit for the users.
What I want to exactly know is whether there is some example where number of Users using TM1 exceeds 5000.
And what are the things we need to take care for usage by such large number of Users w.r.t Server Components.
Will there be any Performance Issues with increase in number of users.
Thanks in advance,
Abhishek

Re: Maximum Number of Users that TM1 can support
I'm not aware personally aware of anybody with that amount of users but I'm sure there are some out there. The best thing you can do to compensate is get as many cores in to your server as possible. When TM1 cubes are read each user takes a thread (When reading data), so say if you have 200 user logged on at one time it's safe to assume that around 30% of them will be runnign queries at the same time. This effectively mean that around 60 threads will be needed. With multi core cpu's around you should be able to address this amount.
Another thing is that when a view is calculated the result is held in cache. If you have a large data set then it is likely that the cache will get quite big, quite quickly. You need to keep this in mind when specifiying how much memory your server will need as well, (If you have a large amount of users but a small data set it's safe to assume the same set of data will reviewed over and over again, therefore meaning the cache will not grew that big.)

Re: Maximum Number of Users that TM1 can support
5000 users? simultaneous or possible? reporting or updating? Also, what size of system, single or multi server? thick client\web\citrix? etc etc
We have clients with hundreds of users ( not all simultaneous) but they are unusual. 5000 users is a lot for a TM1 system, though I believe there are some out there. Any system that size will need to have architecture and detail design to optimise performance and you will need people who know what they are doing to set this up.
If your company is investing in a system this size but doesn't have good TM1 expertise in-house (which seems to be the case) get some specialist help. Find a local TM1 partner (and that generally means former Applix partners) so they can check out what you are trying to do make recommendations and help you do it. If you don't and it screws up, please don't blame TM1!
