Post by welsonlee »

today i found a way to load tm1 in excel 2010

first, you must delete *.exd file in "C:\Documents and Settings\your windows user\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms"
the "RefEdit.exd" and "MSComctlLib.exd" must del

second, open excel 2003 or excel 2007, then open tm1 perspectives in this two excel version
and "RefEdit.exd" and "MSComctlLib.exd", you will found the two files was recreate

thirdy, you load tm1 in excel 2010, the function is normal

anyone can try this way, and examinate whether ok or not

My client is planning to upgrade to Office 2010 soon. I tried your fix and it has partially worked.

In C:\Documents and Settings\paul.simon\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms

I only found a MSComctlLib.exd file but not a RefEdit.exd. I did a search of the entire C: Drive but could only find the MSComctlLib.exd.

I renamed MSComctlLib.exd with a .old extension and then opened TM1 in Excel 2007. This created a fresh MSComctlLib.exd. I was then able to open Excel 2010 and load the TM1 Add-In, which seemed, at least initially, to work OK.

However, most of our users use TM1 Web. When I tried using TM1 Web, after the installation of Excel 2007 & 2010, I got an Error on Page. This occured whether I tried to open a View or a WebSheet.

If I look at the detail on this I see:

Line: 16
Char: 1099
Error: 'NEW_VIEW_WIZARD_STR' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: http://ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ/tm1web/TM1WebNavigationTree.aspx

where ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ.ZZZ. is the IP address of our TM1 Server (TM1 Web is on the same box as the server)

I found that uninstalling TM1 Web and reinstalling it cured this.

Views and Sheets now open in TM1 Web.

However, if I try a slice or snapshot to Excel from TM1 Web, it does not work. The usual internet explorer window opens but it does not open Excel.

I have found that .xls are permanently associated with Excel 2007. The usual Open With method of re-associating it with Excel 2010 did not work. I suspect that this is behind the reason why I cannot Slice to Excel from TM1 Web.

I tried uninstalling Excel 2007 to see if that would cure the problem, but then TM1 stopped working altogether so I had to re-install it, but then the association problem returned.

In Excel 2010 itself, slices and snapshots to Excel are fine. The subnm works.

I can produce an Active Form in Excel 2010, but if I try drilling down, Excel crashes.

Did you get any further with your tests on Excel 2010? Do you have any further answers for these issues?

Does anyone know when TM1 will work with Excel 2010. We are in a situation here where a new CRM project requires Excel 2010, but it won't be able to go ahead unless TM1 can work with 2010, either that or we will end up with users on different versions of Excel which is never nice.

Regards

Yes - but I just got the predicted reply that TM1 9.5.1 does not support Excel 2010. As for when it will support 2010, well I could ask, but then IBM were the ones who told us that 2010 would be supported in 9.5.1 which it isn't. I will ask the question but it has taken me two weeks just to get an IBM Id set up, so I am suffering from IBM Support System fatigue at the moment.

I did ask IBM the question as to when would TM1 be able to support Excel 2010. I was told in no uncertain terms that this was confidential information, that would only be released when the release was ready. I was told that I would have to keep polling their web site to see when a version popped up that listed it as a supported product. There was not even an option to mail me when it was ready.

I fail to see what sort of competitive advantage IBM might gain from people knowing that they will support Excel 2010. It's kind of a given (Mind you she did let slip that the Make Toast button is scheduled for Q3).

We are running on Windows 7 and Office 2010 and we have successfully deployed 9.5.1 to our pilot group. I Installed the client by "Running as Administrator" and everything works.

That is good news, as the next thing that I have been asked to test is TM1 on Windows 7, however, that is a less pressing need than Excel 2010 (The push there is coming from a CRM system that requires it and is due to go live at the same time as TM1 in March).

Could I ask if you have tried the specific issues that I raised, ie Slicing and Snapshotting in TM1 Web, and Drilling Down in an Active Form in Excel?

I noticed that you list Hot Fix 8. Could that possibly be anything to do with why it works for you but did not work on my plain 9.5.1 environment.

I am about to apply HF10 which cures a bug with TM1 Web not noticing that there is a Private equivalent of a Public subset until you actually re-select from the subset. However, I believe that Hot Fixes are not necessarily cumulative so perhaps I need HF8?

Hi All,

The most serious issue i've found with TM1 Perspectives and Excel 2010 is that the Active Form - drill-down through hierarchy crashes Excel 2010.
Has anyone found a way to resolve this ?.

Cheers

Paul,

I tested slicing and taking snapshots from a 9.5.1 HF 8 production web and server to a client using 9.5.1 HF 12 using Excel 2010 in a Windows 7 environment and both worked. I also tested 9.5.1 HF 12 web and server to a 9.5.1 HF 12 and it also worked. However, although the active forms exported to excel, Excel would crash during drill downs.

So provided that the issue is nothing to do with you having Windows 7 which I doubt, then it would seem that if I apply HF8 and HF12 then I should be able to get it work.

The only outstanding bug seems to be the drill down in Active Forms, which we could live without for a while, if necessary. (I have only got one sheet that uses an Active Form because I find the performance so slow).

Paul,

To be sure, I re-tested in our environment and the snapshot and slice functionality from TM1 Web 9.5.1 HF 8 to Excel 2010 works.

Paul, I have been asking about timing of official Excel 2010 support for over the last year since we have several clients who were starting to plan their upgrade strategy. As you say, IBM will not talk officially about future releases but, even unofficially, it was never suggested that 2010 support would arrive in 9.5.1. I did hear rumours they were hoping to get support in the 9.5.2 version but it had been defferred to avoid delaying the release date.

However, 9.5.2 ( or whatever it will be called) has still not arrived and I wonder if they will take advantage of the delay to put 2010 support back in this release. This is speculation on my part but I have heard other clients and partners, both here and in US, are pushing for this and maybe the pressure is telling.

Fingers crossed for the next release!
