IBM Planning Analytics 2.0 vs 2.1

Post by dmillerksu »

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know the difference between Planning Analytics 2.0 vs 2.1? All the recent feature releases seem to be identical. I realize old interfaces like Architect, Perspectives, etc. are not part of 2.1, but is there anything else? And it says 2.1 is not what you would get on SAAS, so I'm just confused why we would switch to 2.1 releases if all it does is take away components (even if we're not using them).

Thanks,
Daniel

It’s about support - IBM will stop supporting 2.0 from May 1 2025. You can still use 2.0 from then, but IBM will ask you to upgrade if you have any support issues. So effectively any issues with Perspectives or Architect won’t be dealt with. You may be able to buy extended support, but the direction of travel is very clear.

Well 2.1 is what you will get on SaaS if the flavour of SaaS is PAoC post rich tier depreciation.
If PAaaS then that is a completely different stack on the TM1 server side as it is PA Engine or v12.x.

There was an overlap where the last 2.0.x release was identical to 2.1 on the TM1 server side. This is because the only difference is the removal of old C API based client-side components (Architect, Perspectives, Performance Modler).

So TLDR yes it is the same. But 2.0.x will only get security related patches going forwards. No feature releases. 2.1.x (we hope) may get some feature upgrades ported back from 12.x
Please place all requests for help in a public thread. I will not answer PMs requesting assistance.

This part, in particular, is important to highlight. I have had IBM PA support tickets that will be solved in 2.1.4 but not anymore in stream 2.0.
So expect to see the 2 streams "diverge" and not be identical, even not in tems of TM1 server V11.

The other thing Stuart mentioned on a call is that the documentation will be radically different.
V2.0 will cease to be updated.
V2.1 will exclude and all references to deprecated components, and will be updated going forward.

Lest we not forget, PA 3.1 has been mentioned coming in Q1 2025...unless that has changed.

PA 3.1 was mentioned to be a non-containerized V12 for on-premises installations. PA 2.1 might just be a transition/stepping stone next year to PA 3.1 using PAE for on-premises customers.

PAL 2.1.4 is available at Fix Central today. PAL 2.0.9.20 was made available yesterday.
