Getting Architect Users into PAW

Post by chewza »

Hi there

We are migrating to PAW from Perspectives/Architect. We are using native security in Architect, and will stick with this for now.
To get all the users (set up in Architect), I assume I just need to do a one off import into PAW after which I can then use PAW for all user security administration?

Many thx!

Well until very recently you would have needed to set them all up again as users and security in Workspace are independent of the TM1 server. However, as of either PAW 86 or 87 users and groups from TM1 can now be used as a source for PAW. So as long as you go with the latest version you will be fine and it will be pretty seamless.

As lotsa says, access to PAW is independent of TM1 at present and is through clunky .csv load/unload. The security gradation for users in PAW are just admin/non admin, but PAW users can be given permissions to access PAW objects by the owners of objects.

When you need to connect to instances you will have to provide your TM1 security credentials from within PAW so that works as in Persp.

Keep Perspectives going as there is a load of stuff you cant do in PAW. (eg Performance Monitor).

Hi All,

We made the jump to PA SaaS Cloud,

So all our users had to make the jump from Perspectives to PAfE at the same time and its been a struggle.

Some of the cubes have lots of dimensions and they find that in PAfE exploration view they have to keep scrolling through the context bar to pick up the dimension that they want and then drag it to row / column. In Perspectives it stacked them together at the top.

They also find that the subset editor takes a second or two to render, and is so different from that we are doing quick training sessions.

They are used to the immediacy of Perspectives and its a struggle to convince them that this is the way things are now.

They would like their old client back :(

Wow, can you please share more details? can't seem to find anything like it in release notes.

I thought it's the other way around, there's now a way to sync PaW users to TM1 database now, like this
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/planning-an ... cloud-only
but still no way to do TM1 -> PAW without a file upload?

Thanks

Hmm, you might be right on this one. I was sure that I saw a notification from IBM Ideas which marked this as delivered. But when I go back and search I can only find as delivered adding PAW groups to TM1, and not the other way around (which is what everyone really wants).

I think it's the release 89 capability that's yet to be released https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7011907 , so you're ahead of time :)
