- PA2 Server 2.1 Series: 2.1.8, 10 Mar 2025
- PASS (Web): 2.1.8, 10 Mar 2025
- PAW: 2.1.8, 10 Mar 2025
- PAfE: 2.1.8, 10 Mar 2025
- PA2 Server 2.0 Series: PAL 2.0.9.21 (10 Mar 2025)
- PASS (Web): 2.0.101, 11 Feb 2025
- PAW: 2.0.101, 21 Feb 2025
- PAfE: 2.0.101, 11 Feb 2025
A "short cadence" release cycle is also known as "nobody in the real world has time to test monthly releases, and if certain software companies don't realise that then it speaks volumes about how in touch they are with their customers". Another side effect of this is that it becomes really, really difficult to keep up with what the current individual components are.
The Fix Pack Releases: PA2 / V11 Series thread keeps track of the server software (the Version 10 thread has seen no activity for the last 3 years and has been unpinned to be replaced by this one), but there are other components as well.
As new releases are done they will push down below the older ones so that there is a quick reference to what was current when. This post is a work in progress and as of February 2022 goes back to the start of 2021 for non-server components, further for the server ones. I plan to colour code the types to split them up in the history and make them easier to spot; red for the server since it's critical to a site, green for PAfE because of the colour of Excel, brown for PAW because it's the colour that I most associate with, um,... it.
The thread has been locked to prevent it veering off in "interesting" directions; for any discussions, issues, corrections etc please create a thread in the main forum.
There will be minimal if any details of each release partly to stop post bloat, and partly because IBM tends not to bother giving us clear details of what each version represents. ("Fixed server crash in certain situations" is hardly bubbling over with yummy detailed goodness.) Anything critical will be mentioned.
CURRENT (NB: This isn't actually current again yet. The post is being updated but it will take a while to finish.)

2025-03 (Mar)
- PAL 2.0.9.21 (10 Mar 2025) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02900.8.
On the same day there was the release of 2.1.8 in the 2.1 series. (2.1.7 had been released on 20 December 2024, but I don't have that documented yet.) - New/Changed features: None.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List is no longer in .pdf form but is an HTML page:
- SERVER CRASHES
- And I quote: "Server crash occurred while retrieving a cellset". This is not exactly the most descriptive or useful explanation or (absence of a) description I've seen;
- METADATA FAILS
- Unable to set attribute when the process is run. Yes, I really would have liked them to provide more information about this. When I've seen this in code it's usually the result of either someone trying to set an attribute value for an element that has only just been created in the Metadata tab, or it's an attempt to write to a rule generated attribute. If there are other causes of that happening it would be useful to know what they are, but rarely will you find that in the release notes;
- DATA FAILS
- It would be unfair to call this one a bug. Apparently a user was using CELLPUTS to write the security value for a hierarchy, but that could cause problems if everything in the dimension wasn't synchronised correctly. From the IBM Known Issues note they plan to change things so that that can work but in the meantime: "Use the ELEMENTSECURITYPUT or HIERARCHYELEMENTSECURITYPUT functions to set the security; or 2) Add a security update to the end of the process chain."
- TI FAILS
- A chore which is run from a schedule produces different results than if ran manually (or if the process is run manually). The notes suggest that this is connected with EnableSandboxDimension=T being set. Possibly. For my own part the closest I've seen to this is when a process is edited through the REST API, you read the thing back and the edit shows... but if the scheduler runs it it runs as if the edits were never made. When I look at the process in Perspectives (and no, we don't normally edit processes in Perspectives these days) the changes to the process are not there. Despite what I ssaid before, copying the changes to Perspectives and saving the process is the only way to really get them committed;
- TI connecting to an ODBC datasource is hanging and the thread cannot be cancelled;
- CLIENT FAILS
- "Improve error information when tracecellcalculation results in an undefined value". Yes, and?;
- RESTAPI returns null value for non-admin user in a ca report when using a filter on an element attribute. Mmm. Don't care. You might.;
- Element locking is not greying out the consolidated element cells in Planning Analytics Workspace, Also don't care;
- "Chore execution failed when ran manually in Planning Analytics Workspace." What, you mean things sometimes do work in PAW? Huh. Go figure.
- PERFORMANCE
- Nothing in this list.
- PAL 2.1.7 (20 Dec 2024) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02800.9. (No, this is not a typo; IBM shows 2.1.6 and 2.1.7 having the same version).
- New/Changed features: TBA
- PAfE / PAXL / PAX 2.0.100 (12 Dec 2024) Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel 2.0.100
- PAL 2.0.9.20 IF2 (25 Nov 2024) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02800.9.
It's not clear why there is an IF2 release seemingly without an IF1; however the two most recent in the 2.0.9 series on the downloads page are indeed 2.0.9.20 and 2.0.9.20 IF2.
In between there have been releases in the 2.1 series; 2.1.6 on 18 November and 2.1.5 on 29 August. (2.1.4 was released a day after the 2.0.9.20 base release.) - New/Changed features: None.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List is no longer in .pdf form but is an HTML page:
- SERVER CRASHES
- Crashes on ODBCClose. Obviously this must be in specific cases; my processes on 2.0.9.18 call ODBCClose more times per day than I can count without crashing;
- Can crash when encryption is on;
- Can crash when accessing audit logs from PAW;
- And I quote: "GETIMPLEMENTATION - GETHIERARCHY - BUILDCANONICALURL" And what, exactly, are we supposed to make of that? The description on the ticket - "No error, crash" - is similarly pointless. There is nothing there that we can relate back to what we're doing, nothing that tells us which environment this is happening in, nothing that tells us exactly what is causing the crash, nothing that lets us relate what we're doing to a potential crash. It takes terseness to the brink of gibberish and pushes it over the edge;
- METADATA FAILS
- RuleUploadFromFile fails if the file uses UTF-8 and has German characters. Ganz furchtbar!;
- While the removal of a user from a group in PAW is tracked in the Audit Log, an addition to group security is not;
- DATA FAILS
- Consolidated cell appears to have incorrect value. It would be nice to have more specifics on this; I have a reporting cube which pulls from a calculation cube and occasionally an incorrect value is pulled through. Unfortunately it's not reproducible, but I do wonder if this is the same thing.
- Data entered into an alternative hierarchy are lost after a physical Windows server restart. There was a similar fix in the base 2.0.9.20 version, but that was about asynchronous data, and about a server rather than a Windows restart. This would seem to be something different;
- CellIncrementN isn't working for numeric attributes in }Attribute cubes;
- TI FAILS
- None that aren't covered elsewhere;
- CLIENT FAILS
- Cannot copy/paste to certain cubes if MixedCellPaste is True. MixedCellPaste is a TM1 Web thing, and more specifically Websheets; it doesn't work in cube viewer. "If the MixedCellPaste parameter is set to true, when you copy values to a mixed range of leaves and consolidated values in a websheet, the pasted values match exactly. The default value is False.";
- Adding multiple hierarchies on a row in Exploration - Planning Analytics treats leaf-level cell as a consolidation. I'm assuming this to be a PAFE thing but since I won't touch it, well...;
- Views which are created in PAW can lose the casing of their name after a server restart;
- PERFORMANCE
- Queries to the transaction log were taking an unusable amount of time via PAW.
- PAL 2.1.6 (18 Nov 2024) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02800.9.
- New/Changed features:
- There were several changes to books and reporting. I'm not sure whether I should really be covering these here, but I'll skim some of them:
- AI generated chart insights and AI assistant support for English, Spanish, French and German. I note one language not in that list perché l'italiano è una lingua che non ammette stronzate.
- Waterfall visualisations;
- Improved synchronisation features.
- Saving native views.
- In Modelling changes include:
- New features in Drive Explorer like the numbers and disk space used;
- File validation is now done on type rather than extension;
- A button allows a rollback of data entered in a view;
- You can now export data from a cube or view, just like you used to in Perspectives though with less flexibility in the target directory than you used to have;
- And you can apparently manage users and groups from the modelling workbench. Like you used to in Perspectives.
- KNOWN ISSUES
- An error displays when you try to generate insights for charts when the source view contains summary calculations on the columns.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List is no longer in .pdf form but is an HTML page.
The list appears to be exactly the same as the one for 2.0.9.20 IF2 that I wrote out above. In the circumstances, please refer to that list.
2024-10 (Oct)
- PAfE / PAXL / PAX 2.0.99 (22 Oct 2024) Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel 2.0.99
- PAL 2.0.9.20 (30 Jul 2024) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02700.4.
- New/Changed features: None, but see the TI Fails section below re the Str() TI function.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List shows 22 issues fixed:
- SERVER CRASHES
- Server accesses a destroyed hierarchy;
- Null pointer during rule evaluation of intersected elements;
- Crash during Windows startup (it would have been nice to have more - or any - specifics on that);
- When trying to cancel a long-running thread multiple times. (I'm not sure what method is involved there. Possibly the API);
- Circular rule compilation/evaluation during process call to DimensionDirectEdit;
- Server is non-responsive after many changeset Undo actions (how many is "many"?);
- After using replication chore;
- Reference to an incorrect dimension in MDX;
- Server fails to start due to a corrupted cube;
- Intermittent server crash while using dimension editor;
- Server crashed with CryptAcquireContext failure message in log file after the server service was started using service account with mandatory user profile type. (In Windows, a mandatory user profile is a roaming user profile that has been preconfigured by an administrator to specify settings for users. In short, it's a read only profile.)
- METADATA FAILS
- None that I can see.
- DATA FAILS
- Null entry in the audit log when using SubsetCreateByMDX with the Temporary flag set.
- Asynchronous changes to cube are lost on restart even though SaveDataAll had been used. I have no words.
- TI FAILS
- The TI Str() function does not allow you to specify the decimal and thousand separators. As per the documentation, "The number passed to the STR function must use “.” (period) as the decimal separator and “,” (comma) as the thousand separator. Any other decimal or thousand separators will cause incorrect results." Apparently there was still a bug in the output in non-EN environments prior to this version. "In regions where number formats use the comma character as the decimal separator (and the period character as the thousand separator), the STR function does not include a decimal
separator in its output, when it converts a number to a string." In most cases I would regard NumberToStringEx as a better alternative than Str(). - Process variable "Value_Is_String" returns 0 for a string cell. Mmm. Good to know.

- CLIENT FAILS
- Inconsistent / incorrect results with dynamic subsets when tm1-usefillermembers is in use. I'm not sure what this is. I thought Filler Members (members displayed to fill gaps where the user doesn't have security access) was a Cognos thing; I can't find anything on a TM1 implementation of it;
- REST API doesn't allow the tm1s.cfg parameter StartupChores to be updated;
- Process with UseActiveSandboxProperty=1 allows updateable cell in sandbox when it should not;
- Numeric attribute data not null suppressing correctly. (Interestingly I had noticed this but just assumed it to be a limitation of attributes);
- TM1 Git integration cannot handle a private application folder in uppercase;
- Git Integration (Azure): Problem with ssh-rsa key that is expected by Azure – new third party libssh2 1.11 required;
- PERFORMANCE
- Slow performance on MDX using an alternative hierarchy.
2024-04 (Apr)
- As of 30 April, the PA2 server is no longer supported on either the IBM Power LE or Linux on IBM Z platforms. And in other news, not a single person on the planet either cared or noticed.
2024-03 (Mar)
- PAL 2.1.1 (28 Mar 2024) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.23.
- This was the first release of the 2.1 series.
- According to the release notes there were no changes to the database.
- HOWEVER, this version saw the removal of the following from the installation packs, and an end of support for them:
- TM1 Architect;
- TM1 Perspectives;
- TM1 Applications;
- Scorecarding;
- Performance Modeler; and
- Cognos Insight
- See the notes in the 2.0.9.19 release below with regard to the FIPSOperationMode configuration parameter, which applies to this release as well.
- Note that the version number that I have cited is from the release notes. I suspect that it has been truncated and that in reality 2.1.1 used the same (basic) engine as 2.0.9.19.
- Not identical, though. The following features of the server were depreciated:
- Replication and synchronization;
- JavaTI (ExecuteJavaN and ExecuteJavaS TurboIntegrator functions).
- ClientVersionMaximum;
- ClientVersionMinimum;
- ClientVersionPrecision;
- CognosTM1InterfacePath;
- JavaJVMArgs
- JavaJVMPath
- MaximumSynchAttempts
2023-11 (Nov)
- PAL 2.0.9.19 (18 Nov 2023) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02300.10 or from May 2024, 11.8.02500.3.
- There was a series of Interim Fix (IF) packs released after that but they all seem to relate to cloud deployments; IF1 (11-Jan-24), IF2 (16-Feb-24), IF3 (20-Mar-24), IF5 (18-Apr-24; what happened to IF4? Who knows?), IF8 (29-May-29 and don't ask me about 6 or 7).
- New / Changed Features: If you have FIPSOperationMode set to 1 in your tm1s.cfg file, change it to the default of 2. I know what you're thinking...
- "What the hell is "FIPSOperationMode"?" FIPS = "Federal Information Processing Standards". It's a set of US Government standards that describe document processing, encryption algorithms etc for use in U.S. government agencies, contractors and vendors. If you need to worry about it, you'll already know what the value you need to use is. If not, just set it to 2 and forget about it. Failure to leave it as 2 can result in connection problems as of this version.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List shows 25 issues fixed, so summarising those should be fun (some are irrelevant or duplicated):
- SERVER CRASHES
- Searching the transaction logs with specific (obscure) strings;
- Double delete with stack push/pop to support MDX IIF statement;
- Fetching parameters for audit log event creation;
- Trying to load data from sandbox file when MTCubeLoad=T;
- Decrypted transaction log brought from another server may cause the new server to crash.
- METADATA FAILS
- Retrying updates on empty dimensions can leave freed elements. (I presume this means outside the consolidations they should be in.)
- Cell annotations property fails if Sandbox dimension is enabled. (Also fails to return annotations for non-admin users.)
- Audit log not tracking PAW based process modifications.
- DATA FAILS
- Zero suppression eliminates input values when using AllRuleCalcStargateOptimization;
- Using CellValueN in rules does not trigger recalculate after updating the underlying values;
- Annotations cell property returns no annotations for non-admin users;
- Rules on sandboxes not properly recognised by Processes;
- Clear spread on a consolidation may not work if UNDEFVALS is defined;
- TM1 REST API $top not working for audit logs when $orderby is also used;
- Drillthrough rowset returns malformed JSON code
- PERFORMANCE
- TCP Pings can cause small memory leaks;
- RunProcess doesn't work with non-admins;
- N level elements in an alternative hierarchy are being suppressed even if they have values;
- PAW set editor slow performance;
- MaximumViewSize config parameter not working with some models (in Architect);
- I don't know how to categorise this one; a missing reference count on lock event can lead to an orphan lock when a thread is gone;
- In Perspectives, the Edit Formula button returns UNDEF values for cubes with > 16 dimensions.
2023-07 (Jul)
- PAL 2.0.9.18 (10 Jul 2023) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.2200.2.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List shows 10 issues fixed, the most important of which are summarised below:
- Server crash when manually executing a chore which is deleted in another thread;
- Can't cancel a thread if a PAFE user is using XLookup;
- Database crash when using ElementComponentAddDirect in some cases;
- Multiple RunProcess functions that make ODBC connections intermittently fail to open the data source;
- Crashes due to multiple cube exports due to invalid cached rule;
- Crashes where a User Defined Consolidation (UDC) is queried while the dimension is updated in another thread.;
- Crashed where the MDX used in a subset has bad count parameter supplied to a Right or Len function; and the big one
- Cubes with just rule calculations but no feeders do not retain rule-derived values after a server restart, which I believe is what got 16 and 17 killed.
2023-05 (May)
- PAL 2.0.9.17 (05 May 2023) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.02000.7.
CAUTIONl This release (and .16) was pulled because of a failure to calculate rule values in cubes which did not use skipcheck/feeders, as documented here. The version is no longer available for download and users should go straight to 2.0.9.18 (July 2023).
2023-02 (Feb)
- PAL 2.0.9.16 (28 Feb 2023) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.01900.1.
CAUTIONl This release (and .17) was pulled because of a failure to calculate rule values in cubes which did not use skipcheck/feeders, as documented here. The version is no longer available for download and users should go straight to 2.0.9.18 (July 2023).
2022-10 (Oct)
- PAL 2.0.9.15 (19 Oct 2022) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.01700.1.
- Main Fixes: The Fix List goes on for literally THREE PAGES, so if there is something amiss with your system you may want to peruse it yourself. A lot of these were server crash issues, which are summarised as far as is possible below:
- When using Performance Monitor;
- When using an element attribute in internal sandbox dimensions;
- When using default spreading precision;
- When using the dimension logger;
- When using an MDX query using a calculated member when there is no accessible member on one axis;
- When the server tries to write to an open subset file;
- When using SaveDataAll then CubeSaveData;
- Replacing the default MDX with a custom MDX in a cube view in PAW;
- When building an asymmetric view in PAW.
- There were also several issues relating to connections and data updates:
- PrologMinorErrorCount would append instead of resetting when the process is run in a chore.
- The TI function SetUseActiveSandboxProperty() will cause inconsistent behaviour in sandbox updates;
- TI processes using an alias may update the wrong cells because of caching;
- The undocumented StargateOptimizationInRules=T parameter may cause memory stack overflows in views;
- User DSNs are not selectable as ODBC data sources... not that I would regard that as a bad thing;
- A DB finction which references an invalid member in a hierarchy would return a total value instead of 0;
- For MSSQL, the "Use" keyword had been failing after upgrading to 2.0.9.14.
2022-07 (Jul)
- PAW 2.0.78 (13-Jul-2022) Planning Analytics Workspace Release 78. Release page.
- NOTE: The original release of 78 was replaced a week later. Under the first release any TI processes where the environment is not English would be empty upon reopening.
2022-06 (Jun)
- PAW 2.0.77 (10-Jun-2022) Planning Analytics Workspace Release 77. Release page.
- NOTE: The original release of 77 was replaced a week later. Under the first release any user connecting for the first time was given an admin role.
2022-05 (May)
- PAL 2.0.9.14 (27 May 2022) TM1sd Version Number 11.8.01300.1.
- Main Updates:
- Slow updates from ODBC and ODBCOutput. (I presume this was fixed; it's mentioned on the fix list.)
- Held cells could remain held after a cencel operation.
- Connection error occurred when ODBCOPen was used with a Unicode data source.
- Print To Excel snapshot did not work in Perspectives.
- Main Updates:
- PAW 2.0.76 (14-May-22) Planning Analytics Workspace Release 76. Release page.

- Quick report with hierarchy shows no data when published to Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Services 2.0.66.
- PAfE / PAXL / PAX 2.0.75 (08 Apr 2022) Planning Analytics for Microsoft Excel 2.0.75

- Bad request (400) - when creating a report or expanding members under cube with percent character (%) in cube name
- Unable to open set editor in Planning Analytics for Excel when SUBNM has a wrong element and has no subset specified.
2022-03 (Mar)
- PAW 2.0.74 (21-Mar-2022) Planning Analytics Workspace Release 74
- This release finally supports Windows Server 2019.
- There's one significant depreciation item. "The IBM Planning Analytics team intends to remove the capability to remain on Planning Analytics Workspace Classic and preview the Planning Analytics Workspace new experience as part of the Planning Analytics Workspace update in July 2022. The 'new experience' is a major update to the Planning Analytics Workspace user experience released as part of the 2.0.56 update in October 2020."

- PAL 2.0.9.8 (29 Jul 2021) Possible Error.
- IBM sent out an e-mail on 29 July advising that 2.0.9.8 was available. The link in that e-mail is now dead. It seems unlikely that 2.0.9.8 would be re-released (after it was pulled following initial release; see 28 May 2021) since 2.0.9.9 had been released about 2 weeks earlier. It's more likely that the e-mail was an error.
