Wrap Text Row dimension element names in PAW

Post by MarenC »

Hi,

Does anyone know how to wrap the row dimension element names in PAW? For example if I have a long employee name I want to wrap it so I can reduce its length.

I have tried and failed to achieve this and believe I must be missing the obvious!

In the latest versions of PAW you would right click on the row header and then select "Format Manager" > "Header" - in the screen that pops up you can select "Wrap Text without Line Break" or "Wrap Text with Line Break" (assuming its unlikely you have line breaks in your element names) and select apply.

Then in the view you need to make the row heights big enough for it to be able to do the word wrapping; you can do this by clicking to highlight the whole row (so all elements are blue outlined) and then dragging the top one to make it an appropriate height OR if you have an additional dimension nested in the rows to the right it can do it automatically if the nesting makes your first (hierarchies) rows big enough.
Note that the wrapping will only occur between words, if the column isn't wide enough it will still cut off a word - so you need to make sure its wide enough for your longest words (and deep enough for the amount of words total.)

It only really works for relatively static views; if users "slice and dice" moving dimensions around then it will mess with the heights that you defined.

Hi Declan,

I didn't have the option of Format Manager when I right clicked but it is in the icon list at the top of the screen.
Following your advice by changing the row header format it now appears to work.

Many thanks.
