FISCAL YEAR END CLOSE - BEST PRACTICES

Post by R4958 »

Hello everyone
I am curious, what is everyone doing at the close of fiscal year to protect the cubes from being overwritten? I know there is an option to lock at the element level for fy and that would impact all cubes using that element. Supposed you did not want to lock every cube in that fiscal year. Do you have cubes that do not impact the financials that you want to leave those open for other purposes. Are you creating cube rules to target/lock a specific fiscal year? Thank you to everyone in advance for sharing your best practices.

You would just lock the year element, hence for all cubes involved. The year is over and will not be touched again, in none of the cubes.

That being said, we often have different Year dimensions, like Stg_Year for staging cubes, Rpt_Year for reporting cubes, etc.

Hello, yes we do have some month dimensions for specific cubes but not years. Having different year dimensions would allow for more flexibility if we ever wanted to lock the year of a single cube. Thank you for your response.
