Edit Element Weighting in 9.5.2

Post by shorsted »

Hi

I can't believe I'm asking such a rookie type question but it has me really perplexed!

I am trying to create a period movement consolidation in a dimension, which will be the sum of one period less another. eg 201502 MVMT = 201502 less 201501.

The children already exist, so I am simply editing the dimension, inserting the consolidated element and then copying and pasting the children into it. I then try to edit the weighting on 201501 by right clicking and selecting Element Properties only to find that the weighting is greyed out. ( The element type is editable but not the weighting )

If I added a new element to the consolidation by selecting insert child, then I can edit the weighting but not if I copy and paste and of course I can't use insert child if the child already exists

A colleague of mine tried exactly the same thing, but he is able to edit the element properties. The only difference between us is that he is running on a desktop installation whereas I am using a citrix client (both running 9.5.2) . I can only assume that it is some kind of ini settings but I've looked through his ini file and can't see anything. My ini file is not available to me to view :x

I do know that I can do this using TI and will probably do that (or use his machine) but I wondered if anyone knew why the weighting was greyed out

Help much appreciated! :D

In the element properties (when selecting the child element), you should click on the element name in the upper left corner.
Then you can edit the weighting.

Can you provide a screenshot if this does not help you ?

Hi

Yes, that works!! It's alittle confusing as when the element properties screen opens it already looks like the element is selected and the weighting is greyed out, however, if I click on the element in the top left of the element properties screen the weighting then turns white. Genius!!

Thanks for your help :P

I'd rather say it's bad programming and should be done in a much better way.
But then again, the Dimension Editor is "confusing" (let's be polite).
