Cube dimensions (aliases) won't show in FM Metadata wizard

Post by jorgen.skovly »

Hi!

We are publishing multiple TM1 cubes through Framework Manager to the BI Content Store so that we can consume them in Cognos BI Report Studio.

We have successfully exposed and consumed several cubes in Report Studio. However, when trying to publish one specific package, no dimensions show under the "Select Locales" (aliases) part. This is quite strange to me, as this cube is sharing most of its dimensions with the other cubes that we successfully have been able to publish and consume. Regardless, I have verified that my user has access privileges to all the dimensions in this cube specifically.

I have also made sure that we have chosen / specified a Measures Dimension and a Time Dimension in TM1. However, in this cube the Measures Dimension chosen is different from the other cubes that we have published. Are there any requirements for the choice of Measures Dimensions when publishing TM1-cubes through FM?

Other than that, I am completely clueless as to what could be the reason for this problem.

Any input / thoughts would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Little input on this case so far! Anyone need more details in order to be able to provide any input?

If so, please let me know what kind of details you want, and I will be happy to attempt to provide them!

Thanks!

Follow-up: The two different dimensions used as measure dimension are actually defined as different dimension types; In those cubes where one is able to select locales (aliases) during FM package creation, the measures dimension is of type "calculation", whereas the measures dimension in the cube where one is not able to select locales, the measures dimension is of type "Version".

Still wondering if anyone knows of any requirements to the TM1 cubes that are used as model for FM packages in order to be able to select locales (aliases)?

Do you really have existing alias for this dimension? Or you can put some snapshots to clarify your issue.
In TM1,the answer is always yes though sometimes with a but....

Sorry for the delay in response!

I have now verified that all dimensions in both cubes have existing aliases.

Okay, let me try to be more specific.

I have two cubes with overlapping sets of dimensions. An example could be:

Cube1:
- Dimension1
- Dimension2
- Dimension3

- Dimension4 [Time Dimension]
- Dimension5 [Measures Dimension] -> Defined as "Calculation"

Cube2:
- Dimension1
- Dimension2
- Dimension3

- Dimension6 [Time Dimension]
- Dimension7 [Measures Dimension] -> Defined as "Version"

As you can see, Dimension 1, 2 and 3 are part of both cubes, whereas Dimension 4+5 are only part of Cube 1 and Dimension 6+7 are only part of Cube 2.

When running the Model Metadata wizard in FM on Cube 1, one is able to select locales (aliases) on all dimensions. However, when running the same wizard on Cube 2, no dimensions are shown in the Select Locales section (as can be seen here http://i.imgur.com/sVsOAkw.png).

Any idea as to why this happens?

That is strange. So, basically you can see cube2 in FM but can't see any dim from there?
As you already stated that you have checked all privilege for the cube and dimensions for the TM1 user in Cognos configuration, I assume there is no issue there.

Have you tried create another copy of cube2 with same dimensions and check it in FM? And why would you use version dim as your measure dimension?

Correct.

No, I haven't as I'm only consuming these cubes that have been / are created by others. I have asked the same question about the measures dimension, but my TM1 knowledge was too limited to make me understand the answer.

I'll see if I can make them create a copy of cube2.

Thanks for the input!

Ok, as these cubes and dimensions are created by others, I strongly recommend you to check the privilege in TM1 for the user which is used in cognos configuration to see if that user has permission to read dim6 and dim7.

Hi Balcey,

Sorry, but I did not find a solution to the problem! An IBM consultant suggested that the cube might be corrupted, but we never really solved it.

I ended up using a different cube.

Sorry for the late response, for some reason I did not receive any notifications about your comments!

Hi jorgen.skovly,

No worries, thansk for your reply.

I'm able to solve the problem by re -creating the cube in TM1.

Thanks,
Balcey
