Hello Friends,
I am exploring the TM1 10.1 Utility TM1Xfer for one of our requirements. I have a few questions regarding that, if anyone can help.
1) Can it only transfer directories from one platform to other and not individual files?
2) Does it creates the same directory in the destination location and uncompresses the files there? Can we uncompress the directory in some other location?
3) Does it do any kind of logging?
Kindly provide your inputs on these at earliest.
Thanks in advance.

@suharsh:
Looks as if you are the second person to try using this, myself being the first - maybe.
From what I can see TM1XFER is to be used for 1-off migrations of servers between Windows and Unix-family environments, probably to deal with the differing treatment of case sensitivity between them. It works; but it's pretty crude. You could probably do a selective transfer by creating a directory with the objects you want to convert, running it and merging the results into the destination. I haven't seen a log feature.
You should look at Ricky Marwan's Simple Replicate tool ( http://www.tm1forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=7821 ). I've used this (lightly) between Windows and Linux instances and it seemed to work.
In theory, you could use the Applix/IBM replication feature. I don't know anybody who has a good word to say about it.
Out of interest, what environments are you trying to move between? I've installed TM1 10.1 on Ubuntu successfully, though I don't at present see that turning into a real commercial payoff.

The name is spelt correctly.David Usherwood wrote: In theory, you could use the Applix/IBM replication feature. I don't know anybody who has a good word to say about it.
That's about all I can come up with at this point.

FWIW, I have never had a problem with the replication, it's the automatic synchronization that goes haywire. So, if all you wanted to do was copy objects between two instances of a TM1 service AND they are on the same box, or at least same LAN segment, then replicating it may not be a bad idea.David Usherwood wrote:In theory, you could use the Applix/IBM replication feature. Re: TM1 10.1.1
When you experienced problems using the TM1 Replication & Synchronization, did you ever try to address them by setting the optional parameters SyncUnitSize and MaximumSynchAttempts in the TM1 server configuration file tm1s.cfg ?
http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/ctm1/ ... _parameter
TM1 Installation and Configuration Guide 10.1.1
The Tm1s.cfg Server Configuration File > Parameters in the Tm1s.cfg File
SyncUnitSize
Sets the frequency of saving a check point during a synchronization process in case there is a network connection failure.
Note: When you use SyncUnitSize, you must also configure the MaximumSynchAttempts parameter. For more information, see MaximumSynchAttempts.
If you configure both the SyncUnitSize and MaximumSynchAttempts parameters and a synchronization process is interrupted by a network connection failure, the process will attempt to reconnect and complete the synchronization starting from the last check point.

TM1 Installation and Configuration Guide 10.1.1
The Tm1s.cfg Server Configuration File > Parameters in the Tm1s.cfg File
MaximumSynchAttempts
Sets the maximum number of times a synchronization process on a planet server will attempt to reconnect to a network before the process fails.

Well, literally taken they are just ending support, but who knows what it does exactly mean. If they are ending their (mediocre) support, that's something that everyone can live with (well, from my experience there were not much things that support was able to fix so far). If it means they won't ship the editor with further releases, it is probably another level (berserk?).Steve Vincent wrote:ending support for the rules editor, but no mention of its replacement. if we are going back to the basic editor only thats the clearest indication yet about how little they now care about the core product.
