Has anybody had issues installing the new fix pack? When I go to fun the MSI file I get a error saying that I have another version already installed and that I need to uninstall that version first. If I run the setup.exe file I get a windows installer error.

Is anybody having a similar issue? IBM support has told me I may need to uninstall TM1 and then reinstall but I don't see how that is going to solve my issue.

Perhaps you could start by telling us which version and fixpack you are talking about.

I'm guessing it's the 9.5.2 FP2. That is only a guess mind. Knowing my luck it's 9.4 or something daft!! :D

What size is FP2? my guess is despite what the documentation says you can't "upgrade" 9.5.2. and you have to do a full uninstall/install

If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

It's in my announcement post; both 32 and 64 bit packages are around 650 Meg. The original 9.5.2 package (32 bit) was around 691 Meg. I haven't installed it yet; I'll have a go at that over the weekend if I have time.

Of course, I didn't think that Iboglix got out of bed for less than 2 Gig with new full releases

Hello,

I have installed it on a VM test machine which seemed to work OK, I clicked on the setup.exe rather than the msi though.

I had to modify my announcement post because the genius who created one of the many pages on the FP2 release pointed a link to the FP1 download page instead of the FP2 one. (They couldn't put all relevant information on one page with a direct link to the download and another to the documentation, oh no, that would be too easy. And not that either is really a download page; they're just links to Fix Central.) I noticed this when I found that my FP2 file was only around 300 meg and was a corrupted winzip file, so I had to download it again. (32 bit ended up as 701,780K.)

However the real FP2 Download page states:
Prerequisites
A full install of IBM Cognos TM1 9.5.2 or 9.5.2 FP1 is required to install this Fix Pack. It will also install over any interim hot fixes
So no, not an uninstall/reinstall; it has to be an "install over".

IBM was nice enough to provide a brief installation guide with FP1. In the abcense of a FP2 guide I would refer to the previous guide keeping in mind that you would need to have FP1 installed first and then install FP2.

- TITLE: Cognos TM1 9.5.2 Fix Pack 2
- URL: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss? ... RXT&mync=E
- ABSTRACT: This Fix Pack upgrades an existing TM1 9.5.2 install. It has gone through a targeted regression aimed at testing the roll up of defect resolutions contained in the kit.

That's the page that I pointed to in my post immediately above your one. Note the "Prerequisites" paragraph that I quoted; "A full install of IBM Cognos TM1 9.5.2 or 9.5.2 FP1 is required". (Emphasis added.) Accordingly FP1 doesn't seem to be a requirement; nor should it be since fix packs should (in theory, at least) contain all fixes up to date.

For the record I just completed an install of FP2 over a "base" 9.5.2 release (no FP1 installed) and it worked fine. I did notice that it also had to do an update to the .Net Freamework 3.5 for some of the charting objects though, which called a separate installer as part of the process. Whether that may have had something to do with the OP's problem I couldn't say but may be worth looking at.

Just an update to this post. FP1 is not a requirement (confirmed with IBM). We were able to get the fixpack installed by doing a quiet install that directly called the MSI install program. Apparently the issue was that our server would not allow the setup executable to initiate the MSI installation.

Thought I would post my sixpennorth as we just installed 9.5.2 FP2 (64-bit) on our TM1 servers.

The install went non-smoothly (euphemism). Here is what we experienced.

The domain account, under which original 9.5.2 had been installed, had been set up by someone who had left and IT didn't have the password. We had therefore to change the password. This seemed to throw the installer into confusion. It got to the point where it appeared to be ready to re-start the upgraded service (I say "appeared" because the installer lacks any kind of detailed feedback on what is happening other than the word "Status" and a progress bar).

At this point the feedback did change, to "Rolling back" - again with no indication as to why. We thought, we cursed, we expatiated upon TM1 installation experiences past and present. We eventually decided (rightly or wrongly - who knows?) that the password thing was the problem so we re-booted the server and started started again.

Lunchtime was fast approaching so the level of IBM dissing increased somewhat. At this point we thought "maybe we should right-click on the setup.exe and 'Run As Administrator'". This made some different things happen so we got quite excited. Ahh, but 3/4 of the way through, with a seeming inevitability, it rolled back again.

Some time later (I can't remember when), we seemed to have everything installed, but when we went to start the service manually, we received the helpful message "Service would not start", or something like that. OK, I then remembered something about previous installs of TM1 fraught with similar failures where the installer had changed the data folder to suit itself. My knowledgeable IT buddy fished around in the registry and found a key with the data folder changed to, you guessed it, that "Planning Sample" thing. Tweaked that, and glory be, it all worked a treat.

Off we went with a sense of bewildered satisfaction, wondering just what the installer programmers are on. Is this a plot to sell IBM consultancy?
