Excel and Cognos TM1

Hi,

I haven't yet installed Excel 2003 or later on the server running Cognos TM1 Web because I thought that the Microsoft Office 2010: Primary Interop Assemblies Redistributable would be enough but I still get an error when clicking on the "Planning Sample MDX.xls" workbook in my Planning Sample application.

"Error occurred while converting the MS Excel workbook into XML format : Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00024500-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80040154"

Is Excel 2003 or later required only on the server running Cognos TM1 Web?
Are there any other components that require Excel 2003 or later?
Would an installation of Excel 2010 be more preferable than Excel 2003 or Excel 2007?

I would put Excel on the TM1 Web Server and try it. I have had problems with Excel 2010 in the past on version 9.5, but I haven't tried it again since TM1 10 was released. I think the only answer is to try it. However, one of the problems I encountered with Excel 2010 is that not only did it not work, but even uninstalling it did not completely remove it and it still caused problems. I had to manually delete some files before I could get Excel 2007 to work. Therefore if you don't have the time to experiment, I would go with Excel 2007

We will try installing Excel 2010, hopefully everything will go smooth in Cognos TM1 10.1 on a Windows 2003 Server...
