TM1 Admin Server Error
My question is related to TM1 Admin Server:
What are the issues usually happened with TM1 Admin Server?
If anything happened to the TM1 Admin Server, what are the method we can find the isssues and how can we resolve it?
Thanks in advance.

Re: TM1 Admin Server Error
This is a very open question. But generally to debug the issues we go through the LOG files which are created by TM1. By default these log files are created within the data directory of your TM1 model.

Re: TM1 Admin Server Error
Do you literally mean the "Admin server" as in the service that introduces clients to the TM1 server? If so I've never experienced any issues with this service (except that if you're running a TM1 service you must start the Admin server as a service too, not an application) and I've never heard of any issues with it either. You'd probably be best to go direct to IBM if you have problems with this.
But I suspect you mean the normal TM1 server, in which case Rizwan points you in the general direction. If you need more assistance you'll need to post a bit more detail (see the Request for Assistance Guidelines post).

I mean the "Admin server" as in the service that introduces clients to the TM1 server. In our production environemnt TM1 admin starts as a service . Even I have also not faced any problem with the Admin Server, but for knowledge sake I am asking.

I've been using TM1 for... what, 12,13 years now, give or take?pradeep.k.jagadeesan wrote:I mean the "Admin server" as in the service that introduces clients to the TM1 server. In that time, I've had one, count 'em, one issue with an Admin Server. The service stopped one day for no apparent reason. The symptom was that the servers were running, but users couldn't see them in Server Explorer. When I looked at the services list I saw that the Admin Server had stopped running. I started it up again, and when the users hit [F5], everything was back to normal. Never found out what happened to it, and it has never happened again.
One slightly more common issue is not so much to do with the Admin Server itself but rather with the network; in some cases users have to specify the Admin Host (the server that the Admin Server is running on) using the IP address rather than computer name.
The only other issue that you may come across occasionally is if a server isn't appearing after it's finished loading. In such a case the .cfg file may be telling the new server to try to use a server name that's already registered with the specified Admin Server. Again, that's not an issue with the Admin Server itself.
Other than that... there are a lot of things that have the potential to go wrong in a TM1 setup, but I'd say that the Admin Server is so far down the list that you can effectively ignore it. No software is bulletproof, but that one comes close, IMHO.

Re: TM1 Admin Server Error
I had a dodgy wireless card in my laptop, which used to disconnect from the network occasionally. When this happened I would get disconnected from my database, and the admin server would not show the database anymore even though it was still running. The database and admin server were both running on my laptop, and the adminhost parameter in the config file pointed to my laptop. I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though I was effectively running standalone on my laptop, without using the network for anything, getting disconnected from the network corrupted the admin server.
I have occasionally seen both the admin server and database services running on a server but nobody can see them through perspectives. I presume this may be caused by some intermittent network disconnect as above.

Re: TM1 Admin Server Error
Actually you just reminded me of a similar one; sometimes if you hibernate the laptop (again with server and admin server running on there) you won't be able to see the server. I've never really reagrded it as a bug since it was never intended to be run that way in a production environment anyway, but I have seen it happen from time to time.Malcolm MacDonnell wrote:I had a dodgy wireless card in my laptop, which used to disconnect from the network occasionally. Re: TM1 Admin Server Error
I have also noticed one weird thing: sometimes when I am running a TM1 Server as Application from my Laptop and if I carry my Laptop to somewhere else in the office then Server stops responding and I eventually have to restart the TM1 Application. I guess its something to do with the Hardware and not a TM1 bug. May be the hard drive gets frozen when it detects motion or something.
But as Alan said - you are not supposed to do this with your production server

Re: TM1 Admin Server Error
only problem I've ever had is when you lose a connection to a VPN you can get an SSL error which means you have to recycle your TM1 instance (service), as the admin service won't show the instance as available in server explorer but windows services will show the instance as running I'm not sure whether the admin service or the instance is at fault but something to watch out for if doing local development, can't see this ever being an issue in production

The TM1 Server has established for few months & No config change has been done currently.
May I know what was your solution at that time, start the Services manually only? Then, has it ever happened again?
