Can't create groups in Cognos Express

Post by par3 »

Hi All!

Cognos Express 9.0 with HF001
Using Perspectives 9.4.1 FP003 to access the CXMD Server
Excel 2007

I am not able to create new groups in the CXMD Server. When I select Add New Group the screen in the attachment opens up and I can't add new groups or Clients for that matter. Does anyone have any idea why this happens. Just earlier in the day I managed to add groups using exactly the same procedure but then the good old TM1 "New Group Name" screen appeared and I could add new groups.

Please help!!!

Add your groups using the Cognos Express Manager web based interface. Once you have done that you can use the screen in your post to navigate through to the Cognos namespace and select them from there.

If you have managed to add new groups earlier using the exact same method, then I suspect you have reached the number of groups creation limit.
This is set by default to be 20 and if you try to add 21, it just doesn't let you, no error saying maximum number of groups excedded etc.

You or your admin needs to change/add the following to the server configuration file tm1s.cfg

GroupsCreationLimit=50
After this is added then the serverice will have to be restarted.

However, be aware that creating a large number of groups will have an effect on security performance, specifically when assigning security to dimensions and cubes. The security dialogue box will take a long time if you select a large dimension, especially as it appears you are using Cognos Connection.

Also remember that you'll need to asssign the users to the groups in Cognos connection in a similar way to creating groups and not just in tm1 itself.
If you don't then any changes you make directly in tm1 will be disregarded unless they are replicated in Connection.

And then in TM1 you assign access to applications, cubes, dimension and process to the groups.
