Is there such a thing as a Developer Edition of TM1 or CE

Post by MSidat »

Hi Folks,

I am shortly moving into the notorious contracting world and wondered what kind of set up others had in terms of personal access to Cognos software.

I cant find any reference to any thing like a "Developer Edition" that may be available for any of the Cognos tools (Mainly interested in BI, TM1, CE). I have contacted IBM but they have not returned my calls or emails.

Would appreciate your thoughts on the matter and access to any IBM Contacts you may have in the UK that may be able to assist (or indeed IBM if your listening, Check your inbox!!).

Thanks in advance
Regards

The answer is pretty short: there is no such thing at present. As a developer you can't have access to a free/cheap licence for IBM Cognos products.

There is no free software though IBM Cognos partners can get access to software cheaply if they subscribe to the Value Pack. However, it is time consuming and a big investment to become a partner!

There is a free trial version of CX 9.5:

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downl ... osexpress/
Evaluate: IBM Cognos Express

CX 9.5 Xcelerator is a customized version of TM1 9.5.1 HF9 thus you cannot use any of the new features like ParallelInteraction (PI) introduced with TM1 9.5.2 and newer.

After an upgrade from CX 9.5 to CX 9.5 Interim Fix 6 (IF6) you are using a customized version of TM1 9.5.1 HF28.

The URL to download the CX 9.5 Interim Fix 6 (IF6):
ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/fromibm/ ... .0.IF6.zip

And the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence can be found here http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/downl ... /cognosbi/

Signup at https://www.analyticszone.com/homepage/ for TM1 Insight and you are well on your way.

This forum is probably the best place to bounce ideas off when learning TM1.

I hope the OP is a quick learner - both these downloads are only valid for 30 days.

...well on your way to the page where you can buy Insight. OK, so Insight is cheap in comparison, but there is no free download if you don't already have an appropriate license for BI or TM1.

I did play around with the CX demo when in a similar position recently. In short, it's better than nothing. If your focus is on TM1 exclusively you might be annoyed that it's not possible to install the TM1 component by itself, you need to install a bit of other guff.

Also, I didn't analyze the EULA but imagine it contains the usual "not for commercial use" clause. So later using anything built using the trial is a bit of a grey area.

Thanks for all your help. Looks like the 30 day trials will have to do for now.

Indeed, this forum is the best TM1 resource i have found, been here for a while and hopefully figured out how not to suffer the posts of wrath from the chosen ones. ;)
