Remote desktop to IBM cloud with credentials

Post by Wim Gielis »

Hello,

I have a number of customers that are using IBM cloud for PAW/PAFE/TM1/... Clients like Architect and Perspectives need to be accessed using a remote desktop to the remote environment. IBM sends these files (for Windows, Linux,...) with predefined settings into it, like where to connect to, etc. Upon double click on the file you will be asked for username and password, like e.g.

Not only do we need to change to a different account, we need to enter domain, account, password. You understand where I want to go to :D Can we hardcode domain, username and password in the (text) file such that a double click allows to go through ? I am not against hardcoding this information in the file; in the end, there are other measures in place such that this is not a high risk. We need an IBM account too to really access the data anyway.

I tried this with a number of variations but I always get the prompt.
I also looked at KeePass to store the credentials and open the rdp from KeePass. While I can do that for other remote desktop connections, these IBM remote connections typically don't work for me in the same way.

Did someone find a way to adjust the file such that a double click is sufficient to get in ? Thanks !

Hi Wim,

Yes, I agree it's a PITA. I haven't found a way round it, but I then haven't looked into it too far. Have you raised a ticket on IBM for it?

We have several RDP IDs because we have several admin users and I was able to hard code the ID in the RDP file by just manually editing it via Notepad. No luck with the password though. I just keep the password in a file on my desktop so I can put it onto my clipboard every time I need to connect to the IBM cloud.

FWIW, all the research I did indicated that the "always ask user for password" is something set on the server side and cannot be bypassed by doing something on the client side.

Thanks Tom. At least username is entered is 1 step further. Too bad the password cannot be done like this.

Yanking this one up from the grave: if you use an RDP manager like mRemoteNG then you can store the password as well as the username. Trick is to put the cloud url in the gateway parameter as well as the Hostname/IP parameter.
