Use FAP dimensions in other cubes?

Post by fstuyck »

Hi,
I had an issue with publishing data from within Cognos Controller to the FAP.
The issue is probably due to the fact that I use the FAP dimensions in a new reporting cube?

What is the best way to work with dimensions create by the FAB?
Do I need to create a process that copies the FAB dimensions and use these duplicates to create new cubes?
Thanks.

I would never use the FAP dimensions in another cube. Always copy it. I am not sure (my last project involving cognos controller was a while ago) if those dimensions get destroyed in any way when new data gets published. So MAYBE that is an issue. I only remember never to use them. :-)
There is no OLAP database besides TM1!

Yes probably. Everytime FAP is published the FAP cube and all the FAP dimensions are completely destroyed. All data will be gone, all subsets will be gone. Basically it's an appallingly bad design.

Yes definately. Whenever we do anything with FAP we always have the FAP cube as the data source and then clone the dimensions to reporting dimensions and likewise load the data to cubes where it won't get lost on the next publish.
Please place all requests for help in a public thread. I will not answer PMs requesting assistance.

If you want to save time, you should use the bedrock TI. That's what we are doing and it works perfectly.
