PAW Time Series Line Chart with Separate Year and Month Dimensions

Post by bkkbasher »

Hi,

Struggling to get a single time series line chart in Workspace with our cubes having separate Year and Month dimensions. Just end up with multiple lines for each year or each month. Is this not possible with two dimensions?! Can't find anything related online and no matter how i orientate the underlying table i just cannot get it to fall out.

Thanks!

Hi, I don't think you do it simply in PAW.
1. Possible to create another cube with just one time dimension and use it in PAW?
2. Export data into PowerBI via tm1py and present from there?
In TM1,the answer is always yes though sometimes with a but....

Thanks for reply.

1. Yeah, a second cube is looking like the only option at the moment. Seems a lot of extra trouble for something reasonably straight forward though!
2. PAW was supposed to be our new visualisation too. Not sure i want to bring PowerBI into this. Also, purpose of the sheet is for analysts to manipulate a forecast and so will be writeback on it and then see the impact in the chart.

Still quite a few yawning gaps in PAW's functionality.

Since the introduction of Alternative Hierarchies I believe the best solution is to have a single continuous time dimension and then use alternative hierarchies to split it into Year and Month. That way you can utilise the same cubes in different ways; meaning you can get the benefit of each option as and when you want it.

The prospect of having to rebuild all the cubes with year and month dimensions in them.

However, to really start taking advantage of these hierarchies, a major rebuild seems inevitable one way or another.

Quick update on this. I created an RFE with IBM for this (create time series chart with two dimensions) and it has been tagged by them as Planned! Good news.
