Unable to Connect to HTTPS PAW with IE v11

Post by John Hammond »

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has encountered this problem with browsing to HTTPS PAW with IE v11.

Here are the steps we took.

1. Using HTTP PAW worked

2. We switched to HTTPS PAW and we can browse PAW using Google Chrome, but the Company default is IE v11 (specifically 11.0.180).

3. HTTPS PAW can be browsed on IE11 but only on some machines. (We don't know what distinguishes the machines that work. All the machines tested are on the same windows domain and have the same IE settings. The same user was used throughout the testing.)

The message we get on the machines when we cannot browse to HTTPS PAW is:
This page can’t be displayed

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try connecting to https://xxx.com again. If this error persists, it is possible that this site uses an unsupported protocol or cipher suite such as RC4 (link for the details), which is not considered secure. Please contact your site administrator.
Now this is a bit misleading, as we have servers at PA version of TM1 Build Number: 11.6.00000.14. IBM has stated that:

As of TM1 10.2.2 Fix Pack 6 (10.2.2.6), all SSL-secured communication between clients and servers in TM1 uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2

Obviously we checked and the browser supports TLS 1.2.

IT are telling us that it's some kind of SSL handshake fail and a bug in PAW. IBM are saying no other users are getting this error and so its specific to us. Same old, same old etc etc!

This problem is very frustrating in that it occurs only for IE11 and then only for some machines despite the browser settings being the same and the domain and user being the same.

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you
