Hi,
Basically we have different department users and we restrict user access to their own department.
However some presentation objects require user getting total amounts for other departments.
At this point we do not want to change security access. Therefore we are thinking whether a TI process can run and drop department totals in the same Excel spreadsheet for reference.
Our team has little experience in running TI in Excel and therefore I bring this to the forum.
Any advice is appreciated.
Kenneth

Re: Excel runs TI process and post result in spreadsheet
A TI process cannot drop anything into a spreadsheet as they run on the server and can only interact with the server itself, not the client that runs the process. You could output the data into a CSV file but it would be up to the client, via Excel, to open the CSV file. You could also create some sort of shadow cube that you do allow access to across departments and post your totals there. Sounds kind of crazy. I would recommend creating a CellSecurity cube for the cube in question and allowing READ access to the "other" departments. That way other cubes that use the Department dimension will still have the same restrictions.
The bottom line is it is really hard to offer suggestions for security issues and make no mistake, this is a security issue, without a thorough understanding of the business requirements and the logic behind your Department security setup.
